gtp38r vs stock garret??

I have seen a lot of info on the Garret GTP38R being a really good replacement for the stock turbo in a 2002 f250 I know it says ball bearing.. what are the other differences.. im wondering if I were to take a turbo off of a donor vehicle I have and rebuild it with one of the kits on ebay plus put new wheels and shaft will it be just as good as one of the gtp38r or is there a lot of other difference..??

Ball bearing, 66mm compressor wheel, not sure which turbine wheel but its not stock

is it based off of the stock unit?? can I order parts to make the 38r out of my stock unit for cheaper than buying a brand new unit

i think its based off the stock one but you can not turn yours into a 38r.

IIRC 66mm vs 80mm??:humm:

Sorry. 88mm.

Garrett 38R

That is a typo, you could never spool an 88mm turbo. The 38R is a 66mm wheel

Ah, thot it seemed especially big....

And never is a horrible word :) it becomes a challenge

as a single you would be able to with some 400/400s and giggle gas. in a compound setup it could be done a little easier but still no walk in the park
