Why was the 7.3 done away with?

JON 03-16-2007 06:39 PM

7.3

The 7.3 went away because they couldnt make an egr work on it.

tn hillbilly 03-18-2007 07:59 PM

its cause ford doesn't know a good thing when they have it. they did away with the 7.3, sold off what little bit of cummins shares they had back in the day, and got rid of sterling.(The bullet looks pretty sweet.) I see a little trend here.

En4cr 03-18-2007 08:23 PM

Also, the 7.3 wouldn't meet the new stupid diesel emissions BS. Thank God I have a 7.3...It just turned 140K

Diesel Dummy 03-18-2007 08:24 PM

They just didnt want to spend the cash to make it happen and look what they ended up with!

JON 03-18-2007 09:14 PM

Getting back

to what I was saying. They spent 2 years trying to get a 7.3 to run with an egr due to the epa requirments. I think its better they did away with it cuz it went down as a legend. Not some terd that they wrecked!

JohnDeere9610 04-18-2007 03:24 PM

I just wish we could get the power out of them

You can, it just cost alot more $$$ with a 7.3 to power it up. A 6.0 is a cheaper to get the same power out of.

JohnDeere9610 04-19-2007 03:54 AM

I wasna talkin about ford power I was talking about duramax/and cummins power 800hp+ I plan to have a 400+ powerstroke and with the same money my roomate has a 550hp dodge. but I dont see a powerstroke ever makin 1000hp

JohnDeere9610 04-19-2007 03:55 AM

But on a side note you can still get a ford with a 7.3 in the land down under.

The OZ Superdutys are built in Brazil, and they stopped production of the 7.3.

The 7.3L was done away with because International Truck and Engine Corporation did away with it....Ford had no choice but to use the 6.0L engines.

Don't blame Ford, blame the engine manufacturer.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 10-28-2007 12:09 AM

I was told they built several 32 Valve 7.3's but they couldnt meet emissions....

And this is different from what I said how?

Because you were infering that International had something to do with it...

The EPA made the 7.3 go away... not that it was not a dead motor at that time anyway compared to the duramax and CR 5.9s that were coming out then...

Inferences were made near the beginning of the thread that Ford Motor Company was somehow responsible for the T444E going away, and my original response was to clarify that Ford did not build the engine and had no choice but to go with what their supplier offered up.

Regardless of why International chose to eliminate the T444E design platform, the facts are that International pulled the plug. Saying "that's just wrong" makes no sense...

You know the 7.3l could have been made to meet the emission standards just fine. A 32 valve head, common rail fuel sys, EGR and the twin chargers that on the 6.4 and good tuning. Just look at the trend of new engines, 5.9-6.7 6.6-6.9 maybe and the 6.4 to a new 6.7. As the saying goes, there is no subsitute for CI.

A 7.3l can make over a 1000hp, Its not a heui but a full mech version.

Common rail 7.3L would have been sweet.

Blue01F250 12-20-2007 08:32 AM

I've been hearing one is in the works -- but have no clue as to who, where, or what :(
