7.3 mods?

hey guys im lookin into buyin a 7.3 or my first diesel. i have helped work on several and know quite a bit about them. but i am wondering about what y'all suggest for a chip/ tuner. I know the turbos in these trucks are pretty good for stock so dont think ill upgrade that for a while. also if im looking to reconfigure the exhaust what would you all suggest? im thinkin 4" turbo back leading to dual 6" stacks? Any suggestions would be great!:humm:

Gauges first, then intake and exhaust. I run an AFE in mine, exhaust is whatever you want. Its more or less all the same. I had a stack in mine but its very loud in the cab so I had to take it out. I run dual 4in with an areoturbine muffler. For the chip I would go with a TS 6pos with custom tuning from gearhead or tony wildman

Awesome thanks for the custom tune what would you suggest?

If i go with the ATS i know a concern may be the EGTs any idea on what i should run to reduce them?
:humm:

I would never ever run anything from ATS.

An intercooler is something you could do but if all you have is a chip for now you should be fine.

ok and why wouldnt you run ATS? ithey are new to me so whats your oppinion?

They mainly focus on dodge and Chevy stuff, not to mention they are a terrible company with some of the worst customer service I have have heard about.

Well the basics are Intake, Exhaust, and a Tune. It is important to have gauges, esp if you will be towing.
I have a Napa 6637 air filter, MBRP 4" exhaust with and areoturbine, and a TS 6-ps chip (although its not tuned by tony wildman). DP tuner is another popular one that people run.

MODS

I run a DP tuner, It's awesome, push on the fly. Unplug the red line running up to the Turbo and plug it. It's a vacum line, this will give you a couple more pounds of boost.
Run a good syn oil, Rotella, amsoil, ETC.
also get the plug for the intake air heater, that thing blocks half the intake.

So far pretty cheap mods.

If I get the plug for the intake heater is there anything I need to worry about in high altitude sub zero climates?

intake heater doesnt do alot. glow plugs do most all the work

in Florida you can get by deleting this but this kid is in the north don't get rid of it in the winter you will be sorry

I agree with the oil I am running amziol in mine with an edge tuner that has plenty of gauges built in the only thing i want is a real oil press gauge ford uses a 7psi trigger in other words the oil press gauge is an idiot light

if you are going to pull at you should get a egt gauge

joebob3093 03-05-2014 09:51 PM

The intake heater is very minimal in starting. He will be just fine in deleting it. Hell the obs didn't even come with one
