2002 7.3L sucking noise.

I have a 2002 7.3L crew cab 2wd. It started making a very irritating sucking noise this winter. It only does it from a few minutes after starting until it gets warmed up. It is loudest at the exhaust pipe. It seems to surge in power when making the noise while driving. I have read the post about cleaning the ebp sensor and tube. I replaced both of them but it didn't seem to change anything. I have also read the post about deleting it. I would like to know how to repair it, what parts to get and where to get them. I am new to diesels so please give me details.

If it goes away there is nothing to fix. Its to help warm it up

Sounds to me like the noise is simply the turbo warming up. it should make a whistling noise from tail pipes until it warms up. After about 5 minutes the sound goes away. That's just diesel turbo 101!

It's power stroke 101! Most diesels don't spool like the power strokes do at startup

Check your brake booster. Keep us posted. Thanks. I have the same thing going on in my 96

A mechanic tellse that there is a valve under the intake manifold that is usually the culprit. Anyone know about this?

joebob3093 02-13-2014 09:00 PM

he talking about the EBPV?

jbarben1 02-13-2014 09:09 PM

Not sure. A friend of mine was telling him about my truck and the noise. He said it is a very common problem and 90 % of the time it is a valve under the intake manifold. My friend can't remember the name of the valve

its teh EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve) it it goes away then its working just fine, its to help with warm up when its cold.
