help , lost power steering and some brakes

help , lost power steering and some brakes. driving down the road everything was as it shoild be but I came to turn a corner and my power steering went out and my brakes barely stopped me . I got it home and checked the powersteering fluid and it looked low so I added some but this did not help any, are the brakes and steering tied together some how? the serpentine belt is still on and no warning lights on the dash. its is cold out but not as cold as it has been, any ideas whats going on. my truck is a 2001 f250 powerstroke , auto trans 2wheel drive with 252,000 miles on it and well maintained. thanks for any help. :scare2:

The brakes on our trucks are hydro-boosted and require oil pressure from the power steering pump. Without adequate pressure you lose power steering as well as the hydro-boost for the brakes making it hard to steer/stop.

I ran into a similar issue awhile back with my truck. my problem was the power steering pump line to hydro-boost system was bad and blew off. (it was hard to tell it was bad because it was located right where it should be. I had to yank on it to find the problem)

I would check all your lines attached to the system (if you haven't done so already) give them a once over and pull on them to make sure they aren't loose or broken.

Hope that helps you!

I had the presure side hose replaced to fix the problem, $ 187.00 way too much for my budget at this point, truck is working fine now

I was turning and applying brakes coming off the intestate. Created an air pocket in the system. Took awhile to get it out. No problems after that.
