Best additive?

I have read several different threads in different forums on additives. I hear about 2 cycle oil, AMSOIL, Stanadyne, Hot Shots and would like to get opinions from some of the long time diesel owners. I've had mine two years and usually add some diesel kleen every so often. What is everyone running and why? What benefits are you seeing from the additives? Any negative effects on the engine?

i dont have a ton of experience with the additives but i run either power service or howes meaner power cleaner... ive always had good luck with power service, have a farm with and family has owned lots of diesel(powerstrokes and ih idi's one dmax and one 6.5) power service never failed... my cousin with the dmax said he saw a 1.5 mpg increase with the howes, although our driving conditions chnge from tank to tank but he is very pleased with it. oil additives i tend to stay away from personally because ive read articles saying they help alot at first but break down quicker than regular oil and effect the engine negatively. im sure some work great but i figure if u regularly change your oil you should have no problem, thats just my two cents

i just use diesel kleen especially in the winter to prevent gelling, but i dont really know much about additives i use it every fill up

The injecter rebuilder here stongly advises against using power service because it is an alcohol base meaning any moister in ur fuel will be mixed rather then suspended in the fuel alowing it to goi threw the injecters and chewing them up he also told me how they strip the sulfer out of fuel which I won't get into here but it results in a fair amount off water in fuel any way.that being said statadyne is exelent I believe howes claims to be alcohol free as well

That is interesting, I haven't had any problems with ps other than a 6.0 needing injectors around 120k but I'll look into it, I used Bowes for a couple months no complaints

I use Diesel Kleen as well, (every fill up) and generally speaking when i keep my foot out of it im looking at a 1.5-2 mpg increase.
other than that not much else is noticable.

Ok guys, first time poster here.

Been having problems getting my 01 f-250 7.3 diesel 4x4 started in the morning. It's been cold here in Houston (hovering around 32 degrees) early this last week. I have replaced the glow plug relay because the old one was cracked. I had it towed over to the local shop and they are saying my injectors are sticking.

Bought the truck about a year ago and it's been fine except when it gets cold. I've had mixed results starting it before replacing the GPR.

This last week,, cranked and cranked, no start. Waited 2-3 cycles of wait to start before cranking it. no start.

Been plugged in each night. Had the glow plugs tested and they say they're good. I'm going to test the block warmer tomorrow to make sure it's not shorted.

Here's the question. My mechanic talked about putting a quart of transmission fluid in the oil and running it (assuming it starts). He said that might clean out the injectors.

Oh, btw, I've been adding the Diesel Kleen each tank for two tanks now.

Thoughts?

Howes and Schaeffers both work well for me

May be jelled up.(Maybe) I would put 911 in the fuel filter area. Drain it with the lever on bottom left side, then put about a cup of 911 in filter area. Then cycle thru the wait to start 2x to fill up fuel filter area. Let it warm up for good 20 minutes or more when colder than 40 degrees. Just my option, anything is better than spending $ at a shop.
