cam shaft sensor

Ok so , I have done a serch and found that a cam shaft sensor is common in the Power Stroke Diesel's .... where is it at and how hard is it to do (concidering I'm a HD diesel tech)..
It will start and run perfect then it will die ... so I start it up and rev it a bit 1800 or so and it will sound like its missing .. like a bad inj.... so i changed the oil and fuel filter like normal, seemed ok for about a minute .. then it @ 1800 or so would lurch , almost like an injector that was fifing too late or way too early .. minus the smoke that it may cause ... ran great and just outta the blue bang ... died ... had to re-start about 30 times to get home .... its in a shuttle bus .. customres were getting worried .... @ freeway speeds it will sputter and then run great and then loose power and sputter again ... so odd ... all that being said any one have a pic of where this thing is and some advise on the best procedure to replacing it ? please :hellox:

Hey john, what year is the bus?
i'll talk to brain at my shop and see what he says since he owns a powerstroke.
Text me some details about this tomorrow and i'll talk to brian and see what he says.

correct me if i'm wrong but if your asking about what I think your asking about the CPS is up at the crankshaft against or near the harmonic balancer. should be held in with one 10 mm bolt. For me it's always been easiest to come up from underneath unplug it and might need a screwdriver or small pry bar to work it out gently pass O-ring. Not saying this will fix your problem but a CPS RR takes all of about ten minutes.

it says the cam shaft sensor is intermittently getting a signal .. boss told me this .. so its like 3rd hand now...

so a cam sensor is easy to do for the most part ? its a 2K E450 mini bus chassis

Just get one from ford dealer or international dealer. Dont go to NAPA or any Autozone type store for that. Every powerstroke Ive owned has had this part replaced first thing, and Ill usually keep one in the glovebox just in case. Takes about 10 minutes to swap in the dark on the side of the road. Just make sure you dont lose the oring because itll leak

Your exactly right. Just unplug the clip and it has one 10 mm bolt. Unbolt it, it comes right out
