Turbo question on 7.3??

If I disconnect the red line to the waste gate, can I still run my truck with no problems??? I've readed that some people run without it, does it make that big of a deal??? What are your thoughts on this???? Good or bad??

Thanks..

I wouldn't disconnect the waste gate like that, you can (will if you have a tuner) over boost the turbo, after about 32-33psi of boost on the stock turbo you are way out of your compressor efficiency range and aren't going to see any benefit to performance.

There are a few options for cheap, but you can find "boost control" valves on ebay and the such which is a brass t fitting with a bolt in one side . . .under the bolt is a check ball and a spring . . .this device will let you set when boost pressure is sent to the waste gate to open the gate. I would set it to open around 30psi and you should be set.

Second, when you increase the boost, you will need to keep the MAP sensor from seeing anything over IIRC 25psi. You can get a good quality air pressure regulator (like the one for your air compressor in your garage), hook it up to the compressor with 30psi in the tank (gotta have the air pressure at the max boost pressure so you can control the regulator properly, and set the regulator on only let 20psi to the other side. This will keep the truck from seeing the "over-boost" code and defueling.

Ok sounds good. I do have a edge tuner on it, but if it don't make any diff then sounds like it won't make that big of a deal.
