wheel hubs repackable?

I'm not asking I know they are not. So I had one making noise took it off needle bearings had went to crap that ride on the axle shaft. So ordered a new one. Figured I would check the other side and needle bearings were still intact needed new grease and wheel bearings sounded like the other one. Ok but kinda dry. So For kicks and grins and I am super cheap and like trying to fix anything I can I took the one with bad needle bearings apart. It was a pain but got it apart. They are pressed on bearings and were still in fair shape but lacking much grease. So I decided I would drill a hole tap it and put in a grease zerk. Used the crap one as a test got it drilled between the races. Then I did it on the one I hadn't taken apart because I'm pretty sure I would wreck that thing getting to together with a hammer. I drilled tapped and greased it and it sounds much better. Cleaned out the needle bearing and regreased those since I can see them and now I'll be testing it out. I'm hoping for good results but who knows. Spins much better with tire so we'll see. Only prob I have is that to regrease it again I will have to take off the caliper and disk. Anyway if anyone wants further info let me know I can give pictures if needed.

Took it for a drive today nice and quiet again. We'll see for long term but I have high hopes.

Are you talking about Super Duty hubs or Dodge?

If you are talking about Dodge (your in the 7.3 Section) a guy did this on Dodgetalk about a year or so ago, has a Tan Cummins that he uses in the dunes. I think it will certainly prolong the life of the hub/bearing if you grease often.

I have a 99 Ford 6 speed 7.3 that I did this to.

Luke, I would be interested in seeing what you have done with the hubs. I just replaced one and I think if I could have lubed the main bearing I could have saved it.
