Looked and cant find a related thread

I've looked on this site and others and can't find a answer to my question. Keep in mind this is my first diesel, so this question maybe be dumb to some of you. ANYWAYS. When I start my truck up for the first time of the day the exhaust is unusually loud.(Truck is completely stock besides a lift). It over powers the sound of the engine. But as soon as I tap the brake it stops. I thought maybe it was because it was little cool outside and it helped the engine heat up, but today it was about 75-80 and it still did it... Is this normal or a problem?

Thanks Seth

And by "stops" I mean it goes back to a normal sounding exhaust.

yup, mine the supply wire on the alt actully worked its way out of the ring attaching it to the alt and was causing a voltage problem lol no fun in the dark halfway up north lol:argh:

It's just weird cause it only does it the first time I start it for the day. I can let it sit for hours and hours after that and it won't do it. Just in the AM...

if its only in the morning and doesn't do it any other time you are fine, no need to mess with anything. its the EBPV ( exhaust back pressure valve). it helps with warm up in the morning. if it starts doing it all the time or you cant get it to shut off you can either clean the tube or unplug it all together, it wont hurt a thing.

Ok. Yeah my cousin thought that's what it was doing as well. I was just confused because its not cold out now. But anyways, should I let it turn off on its own or tap the brake after a few minutes?

Let it run as long as you want. Its not going to hurt anything to shut it off
