looking to tune
Hey I just got my truck and my question is what is the best tuner & chip combination for my 2002 7.3
|
Woah! slow down, you cant just go slapping on a chip without supporting modifications. Do you have anything else done to the truck or is it otherwise stock?
|
get a ts six position with tunes from beans diesel or whoever you choose. Get a set of gauges.
|
you can do whatever you want to it but it would be advisable to at least have gauges on it before you tune it. exhaust and intake dont hurt either. a custom tuned TS chip is the best to run. ther is not a best tuner its whoever you feel most comfortable running.

Yeah, your going to want more things besides your chip. And with a lift and tires, a tranny upgrade is recommended.

Why banks? And about the tranny, yes when running stock its fine, but start putting more power from your chip through your tranny and its not gonna like it.

All chips are easy to install, not just the banks. And all custom tunes adjust transmission shifts. Banks products are overpriced and nothing special at all. They just talk alot. Just get a TS style chip from whomever you get your tunes from. It will be cheaper and easier to coordinate tuning.

TS 6pos with Gearhead Tunes
Luke |
wicked wheel first! then a custom multiposition chip
|
But before that, supporting mods :argh:

And now for a tuner. And one thing that I will need from banks is the transmission control module |

No, you dont need anything from Banks. Their products are overpriced and you can get the exact same results out of a chip. The banks transcommand simply changes your shift points and a couple other settings, all of which are adjusted in every custom tune that you would get on a TS 6 pos.
Yea im busting my ass doing some research |

First things that I would do is do your intake, exhaust, gauges, and TS 6 Pos chip with custom tunes. After that you start getting into things that are more hard parts like a turbo, injectors, trans, fuel system, hpop and so on. Also on a side note on a 7.3L you do not need to stack a chip and a tuner on a 7.3 because it will not gain you anything. A factory ts chip will max out what your injectors can supply for fuel

So one more question...dp f5 or ts? There are alot of people who love DP, and I have nothing to say against them. The strange thing about their chips though is that you can only run their tunes. On a TS, you can run virtually anyones tunes. If you are looking at the f5/f6 because of the more tunes available on it, I would suggest you take a look at the Hydra from PHP. Yup, unlike DP, who charges you for each tune you get your pick of 17. Theres like 20 some options. But those are all included for the $425
|
TS all the way! you couldnt pay me to run a DP chip

|
bad experiences such as?
|
Cracked pistons, cracked blocks windowed blocks, holes in pistons
|
So just guys not watching their pyro's. Or running pmrs too hard? what does that have to do with tuning exactly?
|
way to much timing in there tuning, some guys love there tuning and some hate it. its all personal preference
