looking to tune

Hey I just got my truck and my question is what is the best tuner & chip combination for my 2002 7.3

caedo 03-21-2013 01:47 PM

Woah! slow down, you cant just go slapping on a chip without supporting modifications. Do you have anything else done to the truck or is it otherwise stock?

MillerBoyzDiesel 03-21-2013 03:26 PM

get a ts six position with tunes from beans diesel or whoever you choose. Get a set of gauges.

joebob3093 03-21-2013 04:58 PM

you can do whatever you want to it but it would be advisable to at least have gauges on it before you tune it. exhaust and intake dont hurt either. a custom tuned TS chip is the best to run. ther is not a best tuner its whoever you feel most comfortable running.

No its generally stock except for tires and a 8in lift.

caedo 03-22-2013 01:58 PM

Yeah, your going to want more things besides your chip. And with a lift and tires, a tranny upgrade is recommended.

Well the tires aren't that much larger the tranny is doing fine...I was thinking about a banks tuner with the tony wildman chip..:dang:

caedo 03-22-2013 02:19 PM

Why banks? And about the tranny, yes when running stock its fine, but start putting more power from your chip through your tranny and its not gonna like it.

Because banks is really easy to install and it does some magical bullshit with the transmission.

caedo 03-22-2013 02:40 PM

All chips are easy to install, not just the banks. And all custom tunes adjust transmission shifts. Banks products are overpriced and nothing special at all. They just talk alot. Just get a TS style chip from whomever you get your tunes from. It will be cheaper and easier to coordinate tuning.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-22-2013 03:34 PM

TS 6pos with Gearhead Tunes

Luke

POWER-STRUCK 03-22-2013 06:56 PM

wicked wheel first! then a custom multiposition chip

caedo 03-22-2013 08:13 PM

But before that, supporting mods :argh:

Ok...so everybody is telling me ts 6pos chip..
And now for a tuner.
And one thing that I will need from banks is the transmission control module

No, you dont need anything from Banks. Their products are overpriced and you can get the exact same results out of a chip. The banks transcommand simply changes your shift points and a couple other settings, all of which are adjusted in every custom tune that you would get on a TS 6 pos.

Good, there is a ton of good information on forums. Everything with these trucks is a process, and there are many good ways to do something and always at least one way bad to do something. The best way to avoid doing something bad is to read about it before you do it.

Farmboy 2.0 03-23-2013 12:05 PM

First things that I would do is do your intake, exhaust, gauges, and TS 6 Pos chip with custom tunes. After that you start getting into things that are more hard parts like a turbo, injectors, trans, fuel system, hpop and so on. Also on a side note on a 7.3L you do not need to stack a chip and a tuner on a 7.3 because it will not gain you anything. A factory ts chip will max out what your injectors can supply for fuel

Aint that the question... :humm:

There are alot of people who love DP, and I have nothing to say against them.

The strange thing about their chips though is that you can only run their tunes.

On a TS, you can run virtually anyones tunes.

If you are looking at the f5/f6 because of the more tunes available on it, I would suggest you take a look at the Hydra from PHP. Power Hungry Performance - Hydra Chip

Ok I looked at it and it looks great but do you get all the tunes for $425?

caedo 03-23-2013 04:48 PM

Yup, unlike DP, who charges you for each tune you get your pick of 17. Theres like 20 some options. But those are all included for the $425

joebob3093 03-23-2013 06:54 PM

TS all the way! you couldnt pay me to run a DP chip

caedo 03-23-2013 10:00 PM

just out of curiosity, why do you say that?

joebob3093 03-23-2013 10:02 PM

i know of way to many people who have had really bad experiences with there tuning. i will not take the chance

caedo 03-23-2013 10:04 PM

bad experiences such as?

joebob3093 03-23-2013 10:23 PM

Cracked pistons, cracked blocks windowed blocks, holes in pistons

caedo 03-23-2013 10:39 PM

So just guys not watching their pyro's. Or running pmrs too hard? what does that have to do with tuning exactly?

joebob3093 03-23-2013 11:37 PM

way to much timing in there tuning, some guys love there tuning and some hate it. its all personal preference

caedo 03-23-2013 11:58 PM

understood
