Should I keep my 7.3?

I recently got my 2000 7.3 6 speed a couple months ago. I have 300K miles on it.. It runs fine. I run a vinyl lettering business and I was thinking about selling it to get a Honda Element but I have been giving it second thoughts.

If I make sure and change the oil ever 3,000 miles and keep the fluids level, how long will it last? Anything to keep my eyes out for? I drive it like a grandma, I never dog it.

What can I do to increase MPG?

I was thinking about putting a 4" straight pipe on it and getting the standard chip for it, not the 6 position.

Any mods I should look into that will increase my MPG? My goal is to hit 20+

Here she is.....

Wow, thats a good looking rig! You're on the right track. Definately go tor the 4" exhaust and chip/programmer (so many of them). Dont overlook a better flowing intake/ filter set-up. With those upgrades in place, you will increase HP, TQ, and fuel mileage, essentially increasing efficiency. Synthetic fluids also help. :tu:

i went to the exhaust place today, he told me i didnt have a cat on there. but i have the muffler part that is square towards the back. he said he could cut that and put a piece of pipe to make it straight.... but my current piping is 3 1/2 inch... he said if he replaced the entire piping with 4 inch from the front to back it would be expensive, like $700 ish?

is that right?

also, what kind of chip should i look for? can i get it on amazon?

Thats awfully high! My next door neighbor has a 2002 4 door PSD 4x4. He picked up a 4 inch straight pipe kit, Afe brand, for $265.00 bucks shipped. He bought it from ebay. When I had my 04 PSD with the 6.0, a few years ago, I bought the same brand kit from ebay for $290.00 bucks with a muffler, shipped. They are real easy to install. The kits I spoke of were aluminized kits. Stainless steel kits are a bit more, but certainly not $700 bucks. Do some research on these kits before you buy. Ebay has been good to me, but you can also get prices on this site, from the many vendors. Check it out.

7.3 is a hell of an engine, take good care of it and it could easilly get another 300K. Ive seen these engines with upward of 700K on them before, the truck will rust out from around the engine, before the engine goes bad.:tu:

if treated properly your engine should only last another million miles!
get a 203* t-stat, royal purple 15w40, and a good 4 bank custom chip and the mileage usually jumps 2-6mpg, 20+mpg can be done easily on your 2wd at 60mph.
no need for big pipes unless you want to tune it above a 75hp increase if tuning above 75hp increase a wicked wheel is highly recommended
