Knocking when turning left?

I know this is probably a common question but ive found two answers so far on the web and just wanna know for sure before i spend a good bit of money. When im making a left turn my truck is making a knocking sound. Does it mean i need to replace the complete hub with bearings and everything? i know you cant just change the bearing. Or is it the ball joints?

If you are able jack the front of your truck up to where the tires are off the ground. Grab your tire and move it verticaly up and down and also horizontaly and check for play and noise. Gennerally the cause is the hub. If there is no play then look at your ball joints, generally you will have very loose steering if its ball joints. Another thing to make sure of is your U joints if you have 4x4. hope I helped, at least you will know before you go buy a 100 dollar part.

if its just on left turn, i bet its driver side u-joint in the front axle.

jack the truck up, put it in 4wd in gear and rotate the tire and see how far it rotates, usually if a u-joint goes bad you can rotate the tire quite a ways and hear the joint "clink" when it stops rotating.
