Would it be safe to run JP 8 in a 7.3? even when mixed with #2 Diesel :choochoo:
This is what you call a "loaded question." There are two sides to it.
1. Yes, it will run. And probably well for a quite a while by nature of the fuel and engine. JP and Diesel are pretty similar. 2. Its not what your truck was designed to run on, so parts may wear or fail at an accelerated rate. |
don't do it I will wear out your plungers and barrels, that's part of what I do in the navy all of our stuff for jp 8 has a special coating to reduce the wear and tear from the lack of lubrication jp it is basically kerosene well let me rephrase that it's in between kerosene and diesel on a fuel chart
yeah i was wondering i am in the Army Aviation and just kind of courious on what it would do.
if it was a cummins you could probably run it. the HEUI injector are rather sensitive.
Nope even a 12valve like the one in our dozer, there's diff interals in both the sticks and the injection pump itself they have a coating on them I can't remeber it off hand but they all have diff p #'s because of that coating that's the only thing is the coat for the lighter weight fuel, my buddy is a chemist for marathon and in wights of fuel you have gas then kerosene then diesel well jp8 is a really heavy karosene so its like the border of kerosene and diesel BUT lacks the lubrication properties of heavier diesel fuel now if you have access to a strait lube like standyne lube add in the proper amount and you can run it all day long without issue but strait it will wear out the internals at a very rapid rate and cost lots more than u saved...
What would be the "proper amount"?
I honestly wouldn't... straight diesel does just fine, might run a little better if at all for awhile but wouldn't be worth the damage it may cause in the long run, not worth the risk to me..
According the the Stanadyne reccomenditions for their Lubricity Formula, 1 pint (16oz) treats 125 gallons of diesel. So about 4 oz to a 30 gallon fill-up would be in order. About $1.50 worth at todays cost.

yea that sounds bout right dm thanks.
