Clutch

ok so I'm looking at getting a new clutch when I put in my new tranny. I am looking at a single disc one and would like a button so then I know it will grab and go. I'm looking at either getting a south bend or a valair. my truck already has the solid flywheel in it so all I need is the clutch but which one is better south bend or valair.

are you planning on doing any mods in the future?

94turbostroker 05-19-2012 10:03 PM

o ya, I plan on getting injectors soon. and then maybe someday go bigger and intercooler, water/meth injection and stuff like that

what is your ultimate HP goal???

Um I'd like to get round 300 horse or more but i would like the button so when it grabs it'll grab and not slip much

get a valair full ceramic clutch even though i have the cummins with the nv4500 tranny im running a 13" full ceramic 6 speed clucth rathed at 600hp and 1100ft lb of tq it has never slipped to my heavy towing and 500 hp that im running. ive had combine weight of 30k lbs with the truck towing and it still hasnt slipped once. its grabby as hell but it wont slip.

i got a south bend in my 99. it's rated for 400 HP. it has there carbotic/ ceramic material both sides. it is not a good clutch if you are in traffic alot but towing it's great.

94turbostroker 05-20-2012 07:50 PM

ya I'm hardly in any traffic. I'm out here running gravel roads but I don't know both are good clutches. I just need something a little better than what mine is and plus, not so wet cause the front seal on my input shaft is leaking

fordornothing 05-20-2012 08:36 PM

well i wouldn't put in a new clutch until you get that fixed. also, get the flywheel recurfaced. i know with SBC, it will void the warranty if you don't get it resurfaced. i think i might try a valair in my 94 when it's time, but i'm not sure yet.

94turbostroker 05-20-2012 08:51 PM

well my problem is the tranny is going bad and the transfer case is also leaking i got another tranny and transfer case to put in. so i figured when I change trannys ill get a new clutch too. But ya i probably should get the flywheel resurfaced. but i think i might try a valair and then in another one of my trucks to a south bend cause it needs the one piece flywheel, and they have kits that have the flywheel and clutch
