E4OD BAD tranny leaks

Hello, I have a 96 f-350 4wd. I had the tranny rebuilt (complete rebuild, my understanding) 80k ago, it blows fluid out of the front pump seal, just like it did 80k miles ago, I don't understand, I don't beat on the truck, & it is mostly driven on the weekends. When I do pull a trailer it is a 16' with 1,or 2 4 wheelers on it, or taking the boat to the to the ramp. I do have the understanding that heat is causing this, oh yea, this all started when I put 35" tires on it, it had 33"..... really 2". When it cools off it does not leak until the tranny gets hot again, do you think I could put a larger tranny cooler on it, or do I need another freaking rebuild??? SOOOO FRUSTRATING

one of my buddys had 35s on his truck and has to rebuild his tranny cause of the tires but thats only if you get a stock rebuild in your tranny

do you have a temp gauge? What temps have you been seeing when it starts throwing fluid?

not trying to change topic but who has noticed when spring rolls around or sometimes fall when the outside temps start to rise or fall stuff starts to fail and leak or break ect.
As for the tranny get a gauge to check the temps

Uh-oh.. this is worrying me. I just went up from 33's to some heavy mud-tire 35's about 2 mos ago, and drive the truck occasionally. Should I be expecting tranny problems???

Lol...You're worried about your trans with 35" tires... but a tc and vb on an otherwise stock transmission will hold 500horsy's no problem... :s:

Well MY trans is stock. Should I be worried???

No...

Ok thanks

If no need to worry why did mine start spitting fluid out, It has a 50HP programmer in it, 3" down pipe, open exhaust, open element air cleaner, & 35's. seams to me that A stock e4od will not hold up to those miner mods. then there is a need to worry.

I didn't say you shouldn't be worried... 85305 doesn't need to worry just by switching tire sizes... That is not the cause...

You need to get yourself a temp gauge and see what the temps are... Usually that fluid is coming because of a heat issue...

And you are correct, stock e4od's are fairly weak... especially when you throw programmers and tuners at them... What kind of tuner is it?

It is a hypertech, I was talking to a friend of a friend last night, he told me that the front seal in the pump, sits on a brass bushing and the bushing wears out and will start leaking. he said I need to get a pump that has a new seal or get a seal and bushing.

Might also be the Hypercrap, thats known to destroy automatic transmissions:humm:

saboms 05-02-2012 12:31 PM

If it is that, I can't complain much. Its been in the truck almost 10yrs. I am sure it is not that.

85_305 05-02-2012 12:42 PM

Well maybe thats why it's gone thru 2 transmissions lol

saboms 05-02-2012 01:28 PM

Everyone has a right to there opinion. I am sure that is not the cause of the transmission blowing oil out the pump seal.

Just sayin man. Those programmers are KNOWN to toast transmissions. So while I cannot help any further than that, hopefully you figure it out.
