96 stroke craigslist chip

Picked this chip up on Craigalist. Torq-line Power Chip it says TPC-9701 1997 Ford F250,F350.......Ok so I have a 96 stroke, I thought hey 94.5-97 all the same...Plugged it in...turn key...my wait to start light does not come on.....Engine just turns over never starting.....Unplug chip everything goes back to normal, truck is fine....Is this chip that smart only to work on a 97 truck?????? please help

That chip is probable code specific. That means you need the same code on your computer.

I bought it for $75 bucks. Is it trash? or could someone actually use this....My truck was identical to his only difference was his was 97 and mine was 96. thanks

Does the chip attach to the PCM? Did you clean the PCM contacts?

If you cleaned the contacts on the PCM, then it's because the trucks have different PCM codes and you would need to find someone who can tune that chip to work with your pcm...

Yes I cleaned contacts. Is this thing more trouble than its worth?

Only if you can't find someone to reburn it... I don't know anything about a torqline chip. Make a few phone calls but you need it burned for your PCM code...

When i bought my ts i didnt get the one for the cali model truck and it did this same thing... maybe its for a cali truck? or maybe its for a stick and you have an auto? vise versa

Exactly. Either way, that's a pcm issue and requires a reburn. The issue here is finding a tuner who can do it with his chip...

4 bank chips will over ride some of the PCM codes and will work... 2 bank will not. Sounds like a 2 bank single pos chip...

Unless you can prove otherwise I would toss it in the trash.
