lope at start

Well like it says I've got a lope when i start the truck, but it wont do it every time. I can go for 2 weeks and it'll never happen then all the sudden it'll happen everyday. I had one guy tell me I had low compression in one of my cylinders is why it was happening, and then another guy say it was my high pressure fuel pump was weak.. Yall have any other ideas on what could be causing this?

big willy/96 7.3 PSD

Ditto>>> my baby (96 7.3 PSD) started having this curious habbit a few years back (bought the truck used 100k mi in 2004) being my first deisel it has been interesting learning to diagnose and repair. I like to work on my own vehicle and deisel mechanics charge a kings ransom for their knowledge. i have since replaced the HPOP, fuel pump and glow plugs. recently (1 yr' ago) a fishin buddy (retired deisel mechanic) tested the GPR (glow plug regulator) and found that it wasnt working. we replaced the GPR and viola, she started quickly and ran smooth, apperently she's been starting without the aid of the glow plugs (i live in realitivly warm climate now). unfortunately the napa replacement part is not tough enough (recently in coeur d' alene, ID) she would not start (18 deg) i replaced it with an exchange and it was okay until this january (28 deg). i am now looking at an after market Stancor GPR that i read about at (Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines). good luck

I've had my glow plugs and relay and injectors replaced by one of the nedy ford mechs in our town and it syill does it. His diagnostics computer is what told him i had low compression but like i said its been argued that that isn't it

well i would say if it happens and then goes away some times i doubt you have low compression, check your fuel pressure at idle and see what it is

Loping on start up is usually oil related...

big willy 04-18-2012 07:54 PM

Yeah my bad one of my buddies corrected me today that it was my high pressure oil pump not fuel pump

Try putting it in neutral if its a automatic if it starts without the loping the range selector switch on the trans needs an adjustment happened to me 95 7.3 e4od I also have a 6 pos chip in it also starts smooth

What do you mean by 'lope'?

big willy 12-24-2012 02:38 AM

I actually got it fixed it had something to do with my injectors I got 3 of them replaced and it hasn't done it since.
