is internatinal still making the 7.3???

ok i saw something very interesting. I saw a newer if not brand new UPS truck and it had a 7.3 and was manual too???

tiremann9669 04-15-2012 05:15 PM

No 03 was the last year for the 7.3 no thanks to emissions, everything went downhill from there. :c:

97t444e 04-15-2012 05:19 PM

so why did a newer ups truck have a 7.3 in it???

tiremann9669 04-15-2012 08:22 PM

Unless you know for a fact that it was newer than 03 I'd have to say it didn't. Otherwise IDK unless it's like big trucks where you can buy a glider kit and put your drivetrain in it. :c:

Not sure but I know newer like 05s from Australia and places still had the 7.3

A/Ox4 04-15-2012 08:33 PM

I've seen as new as 07 in Australia. However they wouldn't pass emissions here. It is true that medium duty trucks have it a little easier than our trucks, but a "new" truck wouldn't have a T444E. Perhaps they dropped a new body on the old truck to save costs.

it was for sure newer than a 03, i would say it was a 08-11 atleast, i was gonna go talk to the guy driving it but he got away, thats the only thing i could think of is they put the motor in a newer body

A/Ox4 04-15-2012 10:02 PM

How do you know it had a T444E?

97t444e 04-15-2012 10:17 PM

by how it sounded and iv heard my share of 7.3s

A/Ox4 04-15-2012 10:22 PM

UPS uses a few motors and I have mistaken some for a 7.3 a few times, but I never thought that they were one. Many are IH motors, so they are similar, but if you didnt actually see the motor I doubt it was a 7.3.

97t444e 04-15-2012 10:34 PM

i could of been, but it was also a manual and the guy lugged it and it sounded like a 7.3 with a ZF6

A/Ox4 04-15-2012 10:38 PM

Well international still offers manuals, so that doesnt really mean much..

97t444e 04-15-2012 10:42 PM

well next time i see that truck im gonna chase it down and talk to the guy and take a peek at the motor

All u have to do is go to the ups place and ask to go to the auto shop and ask the head mechanic it would save u time ....I no that the head mechanic at my old job would put a crate 7.3 in all the trucks that blow there motors that's how much he liked them and how easy to work on them and reliable

97t444e 04-15-2012 11:34 PM

so maybe thats what this place did, i have seen plenty of older ups trucks with 7.3s but not a newer one

CSIPSD 04-16-2012 03:16 AM

Its not a 7.3...

OceanDiesel 04-18-2012 09:22 PM

At work we do alot of repairs for UPS, SpeeDee, and FedEx, the newest truck with a 444 I've seen is 04, and up to 08 with a 466. After that it's one of the many variations of IH's MaxxForce, which depending on the exhaust it has, will sound like a 444/466.

A powerstroke sounds the way it does because a. its a v8, and b. it's heui injected. ANYTHING v8 and heui would sound similiar.

Thats right. And I'm willing to bet he's heard a maxxforce.
