Fuel Bowl
 

I have a fuel leak on the fuel bowl and it is coming from the back side where I think it's a sensor is and I'm thinking there is a seal there but can't remember. I was wondering if that seal is replaceable if there's one there or is it better to just go get a new fuel bowl

it's probably a line. the sensors are on the drivers side. or it's the drain valve.

ya I'm thinking it is cause when I was looking at it it was dripping off of the wiring and so I followed it up and that's where it was dripping from and the only other spot higher where it could be is the fuel line coming from the lift pump that going into the fuel bowl and that line is pressurized i know. so ya it might be leaking there

Riffraff Diesel Performance Parts | Ford 7.3 diesel | 7.3 powerstroke | Ford Powerstroke | 7.3L Powerstroke Parts sells the o rings. you can get just the drain valve o rings, or a complete kit. if you pull the whole fuel bowl, replace the rubber lines.

to the rear of the fuel bowl is the water in fuel sensor. yes there is an oring on it, but usually its the sensor itself that leaks. a new sensor can be had for about $40 from ebay, but if you replace your filter regularly its not a senor you cant live without. most people just unplug it all together and plug the hole with a male brass plug. i belive its 1/4" NPT plug - but im not 100% sure on the size so i would double check. anyway, the plug will only cost you about $2 , just be sure not to overtighten it and crack the fuel bowl by accident.

anyway - some more info.
dieselorings.com sells a complete fuel bowl rebuild kit that is very good. it will rebuild the enitre bowl, regulator and you can even chose what type orings you want. i would also recomend replacing the spring in the FPR if you have the means, and have alot of milage. a new bowl will run you over $300, the rebuild kit is under $20 if i remember right. unless your bowl is cracked there is no need to replace it, but i do recomend that you pull it out and rebuild it if you have a leak. you will be amazed how much crap is in there.

if you remove the bowl and regulator, ( if i were you) i would buy the rebuld kit, the 3 short fuel lines from ford along with new hose clamps. the blue lines are high heat and not just high pressure like you would get from NAPA.

you may also want to invest a few minutes into making sure thats where the leak is. the fuel pump has a weep hole facing the bowl, and will leak from that when its going bad. any leak will eventually make its way to the rear of the valley.

most common leak points - drain valve, water in fuel sensor, fuel lines between pump and bowl, pump itself at the weep hole, or lastly the metal washers at the rear of the banjo bolt.


one last thing i will suggest is that if you still have the old style fuel heater in the bowl, to remove it all together if you dont live in an extremely cold climate, or upgrade to the new heavy duty style. im in the nyc area and im fine without it. if the heater element slips off the post inside the bowl and shorts out by accident, you could wind up in a world of hurt. aside from a few blown fuses, it can actually hit the pcm, and trigger the anit theft system which cannot be shut off without having it reflashed. this can run up too $500 to have done, not includeding the tow to a dealer can usually thats where it will need to be done. dont ask how i know..

ya I'm pretty sure it's leaking from that water in fuel sensor, but I'm gonna go and take the fuel bowl off tomarow and check it all out cause also in one of my other trucks it was leaking but it had a whole in it so. But I'm defently getting new fuel lines for it since I'll be that far torn down. But with that sensor I'm not for sure if I'll keep it on there then cause I'll know pretty fast if there's water in the fuel when my engine starts to spit and sputters
