Downpipe install

got me a 3 in downpipe, and i've heard they are a pain in the butt to put in so before i start, what about it is the pain in the butt part?

it's more of a pain to get the old one out. the new one should be a 2 piece right?

get a saw a 4x4 and a 6.... maybe 12 pack and dont be shy haha some are a b**** to put in... my truck the old one dam near fell out and i slid the new one in... my buddies pick up it took us 4 hours and a few busted knuckles.

cut the flange off the top of the dp. if you're lucky it will fall out. is the new dp a stock rep that will bolt up to a stock exhaust?

Just take a sawzall and cut the cobra head right next to the turbo outlet. Then unbolt it down under the truck and it should slide right out the bottom. Then you need to make room for the new pipe, you will see the difference between the round 3" downpipe and flat stock downpipe. You would help yourself immensely if you go and get a portapower to maneuver the firewall. If not, a baseball bat or crowbar will do the trick with some elbow grease... Put the top half of your new downpipe down from the top and you will see which section of the firewall needs to be moved. Then move it until you can slide the downpipe in and have a good little bit of clearance.

the new one is a 2 piece..looks like ill be breaking out the portapower, thanks for the tips hopefully it be a smooth operation

It's really not that bad, people just get frustrated when it doesn't slide right in... Sucks when you buy an aftermarket part that doesn't just bolt in...Lol

DieselDanBoy 02-19-2012 02:08 PM

and make sure you have adequate clearance, take it from a guy who knows. when that downpipe hits the firewall, it's like your inside of a drum being beaten by a drummer of a death metal band :s:

fordornothing 02-19-2012 05:02 PM

oh come on, it's not THAT bad... re,ember that when you think you have enough clearance, go a little bit more. incase the fire wall wants to move back it won't go to far...

DieselDanBoy 02-19-2012 05:41 PM

ohhh, it was bad :ouch: OBS crew cabs ARE NOT as insulated as 99+ crew cabs haha
