white/blue smoke at start up
I have a 97 7.3 psd and when i start it when its cold it bellows out white smoke like a train and as it warms up the smoke calms down and turns into a blue color and it smells really bad. what would be causing this?
A cold diesel and oil in the exhaust.
even when its warm it slightly smokes blue as well
Check your downpipe for oil... Possibly turbo seals...
White smoke is just unburnt fuel, cold cylinders, maybe a bad glowplug or two... |
the dp and turbo is dry no oil in it could it just be the injectors wearing out?
Blue oil is usually oil being burnt at some point or another... Injectors wearing out, probably not. Could be bad injector orings..
i dont think its piston rings because compression is good in all 8 and it might use 1/4 quart of oil if that between oil changes
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- i changed the orings not too long ago and the injectors have 330,000 miles on them and injector cups are good too |
Sounds like it's time to replace the injector o-rings.
I already did the injector orings about 3 months ago
white smoke usally indicates water check oil on dipstick for water if none taste it if it is sweet tasting then theres prob antifreeze mixed in oil check head gaskets (look on block for water runs) check tailpipe for excev. moisture check radiator to see if it low just a few things to look at
