torque converter lock up

my buddy just bought a dodge cummins mid 90s and he has his torque converter lock up on a switch so he can have it lock up any time any gear. am i able to do that in my obs powerstroke? what are some goods and bads doing this, with towing in mind?

whether you can or not easily idk?

bads
1. super hard on all components of the tranny if used wrong
2. dramatically reduces the life span of the trans. unless used properly
3. if you use it while the tranny is shifting it is like speed shifting a manual tranny without using the clutch... think about it how good can that be for anything?
4. trannys are very expensive to rebuild
5.will stall the truck if you leave/forget it is ingaged. and this is very easy to do.

the goods

1. will increase your speeds 0-60, 1/4 mile what have ya
2 can be used as an engine breake for pulling because it locks you into gear.
3. very cheap to install expecially on the dodges

my .02 is DONT DO IT unless you race it or sled pull it only! WAY to easy to break things!

is there way keep it stock but also add a switch in line with stock wires so it wll act normal unless i want it to other wise? is it a hassle to find the wires?

turbo2332 01-17-2012 09:49 PM

cant tell ya bud. gonna have to do some diggin. but still dont do it

what do you guys think about the BD Diesel Torque Converter Lock Up Kit

1988-1997 Ford F-350 Torque Converter Lock Up Kit - BD Diesel 1030395

am i able to lock it up from first gear and the computer does the rest?

i fond a couple of ways to do the manual switch. but it says you tap the purple wire with the yellow tracer in the transmission wiring harness then run it to a toggle switch and ground the switch BUT..... i cant find a purple wire with a yellow tracer in the harness, just one with a pink tracer. if you have any luck please let me know i am interested in putting the switch on mine

oh and its not gonna hurt your truck or your tc. my cousin has it on his dodge and it does fine and dodge tranmissions arent as good as e40od's. and by tapping the wire and installing a switch youll never know you have the switch in the off position. and i also dont see why people have negative things to say, half the time they dont even have the dang mods lol

dont let anyone else drive that unless they know what there doing, they'll wreck the trans.

lol nobody else drives my truck, its my baby. that wold be like askin to fly air force one haha. i still cant figure out how to do it tho. nobodys posted on my thread and i still cant find that wire.
