ebp solonoid removal?

i have a 97 powerstroke and i need to replace the ebp solonoid and am wondering what i need to do this? i was told im gonna have to pull the turbo obviously because its tucked up under it. so do i need new gaskets? or what low cost mods could i do to the turbo or whatever else while i have the turbo off?:humm:

yes the turbo needs to come off. there are 4 O- rings- 2 between the block and pedistol, and 2 between the pedistol and turbo. replace them all while the turbo is out. as for low cost mods to the turbo, not really anything you can do there...

could just delete the stupid thing... couple of 3/4" freeze plugs and a couple of 3/8 npt plugs. or just change the solenoid... don't have to take off the turbo, just one little hold down bolt, takes off your clip, unplug the wires, and pull it out. it is on the front side of your turbo behind your air inlet hose.

i think for now im just gonna wire it open until i get the time to actually fix it. im way to busy and driving way to much to be gettin the 12 mpg. its starting to get real cold in the mornings and i can warm my truck up 5 10 minutes and i can go almost 6 miles at 2000 rpm before she gets up to temp when its about 35 degrees out. any ideas there? is it the thermostat stuck open or is it that valve?

fordornothing 10-15-2011 11:35 PM

if the valve is stuck closed you will hear it. it gives off a hissing sound. the thermostat could be stuck. but i think it's a ford thing to be cold blooded. pull the water neck and see.

well my valve is actually disconected from my solonoid. somehow the rod stripped off the clip. but the valve moves freely when i move it i think the valve is open when idleing to about 1500. then the hissing sound comes in and no power bad mileage on freeway which im at about 2300 so i think im just gonna wire it open for now

honestly, how cold does it get out there in Cali? I live in CO, and it gets cold out here, even on the plains. That neat little 6 position ts chip was $260 well spent. I just eliminated that stupid ford malfunction design, and probably picked up a couple of ponies while at it... Granted, a full delete is a mild pia, but I needed to work over the turbo anyway, we went all out. .84 ar exhaust housing and wicked wheel cold side. we can now get 28 lbs out of her. she acts pretty alive, except for right now that is, seeing she is dead and all. not to mention, its pretty tough to get that pyro over 1000*.

well if the rod popped of then figure out which way is open and wire it that way. or put the rod back on and see if it acts up. that could be all the problem was.

oh it can get to zero at night in the winter. its not like i live on the beach haha. but i wired it tonight and i had all my power back, i think ill just use the high idle on my chip if it gets real cold and of course plug her in. thats cool crazy cooter. but what happened to her?

crazycooter 10-18-2011 02:12 AM

hoping just the hpop... we will see when I get a new one in her. Just a good thing I don't ever need to take it to the mecanic. this one would be pricy
