wastegate on a 95(it totally has one)
So I just got rid of the old 6.5td and got a 95 powerstroke. I took it in to a performance shop in Calgary Alberta for a check up. I thought it was a bit underpowered and they suggested wireing the wastegate shut. From what I learned from you guys there is no such thing on a 94-98 psd. I looked and there it is, a valve on my turbo conected to a rod just like my 6.5 chev had. I assume it was replaced by by someone else or possibly the entire motor was changed. How can I identify what year the motor is? maybe there is a casting number? Anyhow I know there is a small leak somewhere around the turbo and I will have to pull it apart to find it and would like to build a turbo master while I'm in there like I did on my chev if thats a good idea. I will eventually do the 4" exaust and chip it but want the cheap power for starters. I tow 8000lbs+ regularly in hilly conditions and it seems a bit slugish on the hills. I changed all the filters, fluids, and temps and pressures appear normal.

The 94-98 came stock with an EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve). This valve partially blocks off the exhaust to assist in warming a cold engine. It is not a wastegate.

What ^^^^ said... Its not a wastegate...

Cant add much more to what these guys said. There is no wastegate on the 94.5 to 97 PSD's.
3" down pipe to a 4" exhaust will open it up a bit. A tymar intake and a 10k mod... Your turbo is more then likely leaking from the up pipes. |
