New truck!
I just picked up a 95 PSD XLT, 4x4, automatic and so far I'm pretty impressed! Here's some pics, I've since picked up an A.R.E. camper shell to avoid CA weight fees... Soooo worth it! I've been a Toyota guy for years.... but the Toy has got to the point that I should tow it to the trails... Enter Ford!
It has a couple issues, but the most pressing is a random stumble. While driving the RPM's will randomly drop, some times so bad that it will stall, if I'm going fast enough it sometimes will start back up on it's own (which I thought was odd being that it's an auto...), sometimes it will die outright. But always fires back up. It feels like a fuel starvation issue, I have changed the fuel filter on top of the engine. Problem happens on both front and rear tanks. Thanks for any insight on that! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g...0/DSC08992.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-p...0/DSC08991.JPG |

Anyways....sounds convincingly like the infamous cam sensor. Probably on it's way out.... |
Raider Nation! that's what everyone has said so far! I'm the only one who didn't see it... hehe
The cam sensor is cheap and easy to replace right? Don't tell me I have to pull the water pump, cause I just changed that.... :D |
Re: New truck!
The CPS is about $40 and a 10min job.
|
Does not sould like a CPS to me, sounds like a fuel or HPO issue. Possibly a IPR or ICP sensor.
You need to find a way to scan it. Auto zone scanners will not work, needs to be a Snap on, Auto Enginuity or like. Even a superchips programer will read the codes. |
I will see if I can get it scanned first then. Thanks for the direction!
|
My '00 auto would randomly die too but NEVER started up on its own. Dealer I bought it from put a new cam sensor on for me at zero cost, took him like 15-20 min.

the reason it started up by itself is the torque converter was locked, that is why it only happens sometimes, the other time it doesn't start on it's own is the torque is unlocked and it rolls like it's in neutral.

I agree with Joe, it sounds like an icp or ipr. |
Had the codes read, "Intermittent cam sensor signal" or something like that... Picked up a new sensor today for $28. Just have to stick it in. I also rechecked the cruise control, and it does work, I'm used to Toyotas that have a cruise light on the dash, so when no light came on I figured it was not on..... So as of now I'm about out of issues to worry about. :D I'll get a few more pics if I can get my camera to work (took it swimming with me a few weeks back... in my pocket....) :P
Thanks for the help so far gents! I hope I won't be needing too much more for a while! |
On to the next issue... Since I got the truck it has had something up with the brakes (there is a bungee cord pulling the pedal back up) It stops fine, and feels right, but the brake pedal will sometimes not come back up. If the ambient temp is low, IE early in the morning, it works fine, and comes up like it should. But once it's hot out, the pedal will stay down, and leave the brakes on until I pull the pedal up with my toe...
My guess is it's something to do with the booster, but thought I'd ask here before I go throwing money at it. Thanks!!! :rocking: |
I suggest starting a new thread for more hits:tu:

Actually in 1997 the 'Strokers were known to out accelerate a Mustang GT from 35-70mph, stock for stock.

Here's how she sits now. I'm loving the ARE top, it has the side toolboxes, which is really handy! I did find out while camping out in the back that the top leaks pretty bad, so I just got done re-sealing all the joints... :D
I had to repair the pass door lock mechanism, a plastic part broke, and a linkage was flopping around in the door... Still loving it though! Thanks for the help so far!:rocking: https://www.dieselbombers.com/attach...-dsc09162a.jpg |

And here's a pic from a recent offroading event. Towing that ugly green thing is half the reason I bought the Ford. :tu:

I agree, definatley the booster, I had the same problem with my rig. Bungee cords are a nice fix but if youve got the cash, fix it, it will save you alot of time and money in the long run.

Thats really badace... anything to support this? Or was it just street-talk back then? Because thats really awesome.
Diesels also weren't as popular as now, so they didn't do many magazine articles on their performance. I witnessed it many times, but don't have video evidence to prove it, but "back in the day" they were a fast truck, for the time..... |
Thats good to know man :tu: Appreciate it
