Oil pump

so im ordering stage 1 sticks and was wondering if they would function better if i got the hpop for my truck and had that done at the same time.

Re: Oil pump

All injectors including stock will befit from oil but it is not needed.

+1, not a necessity but the stock hpop struggles even w/ stock injectors in higher rpms

I've had zero problems with my stage 1's on my stock oil...

Unless your pump is worn or having issues holding pressure, I would save the money and put it in the bank...

ALL 7.3's came with hpops too-weak from the factory. They just dont flow the oil necessary up-top

Re: Oil pump

I did just fine with stock oil pump running AAs and ADs which are more oil hungry then stage 1s so im not sure where you heard that at.

It's just a well-known fact I picked up while owning a superduty. If you can see a performance increase by getting a modded hpop and stock everything, then clearly the stock unit isn't up to par. And I haven't heard of one person installing a hopped up hpop and not report in positive results. Just saying:rocking:

EDIT: In fact, I've heard of people doing some work to their trucks, such as tuner and supporting mods, and a CEL after a WOT run because the hpop cant keep up.

farm boy 07-26-2011 06:38 PM

Well maybe i will run them with the stock pump and then i may get the hpop and see what the difference is. I only got 140k on my truck so i dont think the pump is wore out yet.

85_305 07-26-2011 06:45 PM

Thats not the point.. the point is these pumps dont come adequate enough for STOCK use, let alone high performance use. I mean, you can run the stock hpop... but you will NOT be getting the most out of your truck by any means.

Remember, an hpop and stage 1 sticks are both tunable upgrades. Both of those upgrades will take a retune to perform at their peak.

Re: Oil pump

So making 500 on a stock oil pump isn't enough? The super duty runs AB and AD injectors the AD is a very oil hungry and the oil pump was not designed for performance use. Had they put something like an AC injector in the SD you would not have this problem.

To the OP you do not need to upgrade the oil pump you will run just fine. Will you benefit from one? Absolutely but it is not needed.

Do you have any stats to support your well known facts? :pca1:

85_305 07-29-2011 10:21 PM

No I guess not.. just what everybody in the Super Duty section has ever told me :ouch:

But if putting a hi-performance pump in our trucks makes ANY improvements over the stock pump, which they do, doesn't that tell you that perhaps the stock unit is lacking.. sub-par, perhaps?

Re: Oil pump

No it just tells me that the stock pump and AD injector combo were not ment for high performance use together. The stock 17* with the right injector will produce more hp then most people could want.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I understand your point now :rocking:
