1997 F250 HD what to do next

Hi yall, i finally got my 97 goin again, i bought my truck last spring and the trans went out of it the day after i bought it (e4od w/ 165k) , in january i finally got around to rebuilding it and then i finished out the winter driving it, then this spring i ordered isspro gauges, a downpipe and a ts 6pos chip for it, and the day that that stuff got here in the mail my steering column bearings went out and i had noticed that the wheel bearings were a little loose, not knowing the condition of them, i wanted to repack them soon, but with the steering coulumn bearings out, the truck was disabled again :( and i had another truck to drive in the mean time, so i just parked it, well 2 days ago i got the bearings in the column redone, and my downpipe in, and my chip on, i am in the process of installing the gauges in the next couple of days, driving it fairly easy and unloaded untill then.

But, driving home today i got blown by, by a chevy with a 6.5, and i tried to keep up but couldn't. i dont know what the guy had done to his truck, but it handed mine its a**, with my chip on 80hp performance.

I was wondering what i need to do now, to keep my truck from being passed by 6.5 idi's :(

sorry for the long post and thanks

First off dont drive it easy, RPM's mean lower EGT's. Lugging it means high EGT's.

I just cant see a 6.5 beating a 7.3 with a chip... My bet is he got the jump on you and you never made it up... 6.5 put out about 160rwhp... OBS would be about 200rwhp and with your chip about 230rwhp...

Yea, had the overdrive off, and we raced for about 3 miles, we started on a slight hill, went down a 2 mile flat strait stretch, at and climed a pretty good hill at the end, he had the jump on me at the start, and goin down the flat stretch i had almost caught him, we were up to about 95, then climbing the hill mine dropped back to about 85, and his kept pulling
:ouch: i was kinda bummed getting beat by a 6.5, but i think he had his pump turned up and injectors, cuz he was smokin pretty good

Either he has done some work or it's got something else in its place.... Like Joe said, You only have about 230ish rwhp even with the chip... Next thing to look into would be injectors. It's only money.... Decide what your goals and intended uses are for the truck and we can steer you in the right direction...

And remember, smoke doesn't equal power...

thanks, I'm hoping for like 350 - 400hp, but i don't have a ton of money, and i want to do it right, i was thinking maybe brand new AC injectors, but i'm not sure, i'm gunna use the truck as a daily driver, but i drive 35 miles into town every day, so it is getting all of the way warmed up, and i am also going to be using the truck to pull my car trailer, never loaded with less than 5,000 pounds

And im not interested in smoke, it is annoying to other drivers, and doesnt help the environment, my 89 cummins with the pump turned up smokes pretty good when i hammer it, and still gets 20mpg, but for the most part i try not to smoke

I would definitely go the AC route... I have rebuilt stage 1's which are pretty close to AC's except mine aren't new. They definitely wake up the truck. They will get you in your power range, as long as you have the supporting mods to go with it...

No smoke will come in the tuning... Some good custom tuning and you can have all your power and little to no smoke...

A 6.5 detroit did NOT beat you. Those are the slowest turds on the face of the planet. I owned a 12v cummins, and stock, that effer was slow. But a 6.5 detroit is seriously... SLOW. It wasn't a 6.5, or he had an INSANE amount of work done, because there is ZERO aftermarket for them. And even with work done, it's gonna take a good amount of work to even KEEP UP with your OBS.

so my chip as of now is burned for a stock truck, and after the injectors i will need it reburned right?

supporting mods being intake, exhaust and......?

and it definitly was pulling away from me on the hill, i was depressed, because of my severe dislike for GM (government motors :P) products, i raced another one tonight comin home, and he was SOL cuz the stroker got an even start with him and i owned his a** all the way home, i even played with him a little, let him catch up and then i would drop the hammer again and leave him, so the one that beat me was definitly built

Yes you def need a reburn to supply the new sticks optimally. I'm sure it will limp around w/out a reburn though.

I'm not a gm fan anymore either... can't stand them.

It will run fine, You should have AA's in your truck now which are single shots, and any modded injector your going to put in there SHOULD be a single shot.

There is a slight chance your truck has AB's, but thats very remote.
