Manual Transmission

Do you need to monitor tranny temp on manual transmission? If so, do they have a plug you can just hook up to a gauge? I've ordered a chip and am trying to figure out if I need that gauge or not?

Thanks

Re: Manual Transmission

It is not needed. You can watch it but its not one that's needed. If you want to watch it you can drill and tap the PTO cover and put the sensor there.

Is it recommended or is that really just for auto trans? And if not, is fuel pressure something that needs to be watched? Or what other gauge would u recommend besides pyro and boost?

High Pressure Oil Pump

How do you hook that gauge up?

95powersmoker 05-22-2011 06:35 PM

If you're looking for a 3rd gauge to put in a pod, Scan gauge... It reads everything your PCM see's and displays it in a 2 1/16" gauge for you...

Travistrent1993 05-22-2011 09:17 PM

Just wondering... I'm kinda new to all this but what do you watch the PCM for? Does it show codes or run diagnostics? And are they more expensive?

The PCM is the trucks computer... All the inputs it sees are sometimes nice to see yourself...

The gauge also scans for codes and does cylinder contribution tests and buzz tests...

Just a thought.

What about fuel pressure?

95powersmoker 05-23-2011 10:32 AM

You can get a fuel pressure gauge if you want... The problem is that the pressures bounce around a lot and it won't be long before you kill a sender which aren't cheap parts...

Travistrent1993 05-23-2011 10:49 AM

So what's more important? HPOP or scan gauge?

95powersmoker 05-23-2011 11:27 AM

I wouldn't call either one more important. The Scan Gauge will display the information you need to tell if your HPOP is doing it's job..

Travistrent1993 05-23-2011 08:47 PM

So do you have 3 or 4 gauges? Cause I could do one or the other and pyro and boost. Or all four? Just trying to figure out what is the best

Do you think the aeroforce is a good scan gauge?

I have 3, Pyro, boost and tranny temp... If I had gotten a 4 gauge pillar pod, I would run a scan gauge in there as well...

Yep. Definitely a good gauge that does a lot.

CSIPSD 05-27-2011 01:13 PM

Most important gauges...

1. Pyro
2. Tranny temp (auto)
3. Fuel Pressure
4. Boost
5. Exhaust Back Pressure
6. Oil Pressure
7. Water temp
8. Oil Temp
9. Rear Diff Temp
10. Volts...

I could go on, but that gives you a good start.

For your truck I would go Pyro, Boost, Fuel Pressure and a Scan gauge.

A HPO gauge is not a good choice in a "gauge" watching the HPO pressures only gives you one piece of the puzzle, without the other piece you cant complete the picture.

HPOP and Duty cycle go hand in hand. Scan gauge will read both, at the same time.

Y do you say fuel pressure over the others?

joebob3093 05-29-2011 04:45 AM

if your fuel preddure is low it causes low power and can destroy the injectors.

Travistrent1993 05-29-2011 11:28 AM

What is the electric fuel system you have?

joebob3093 05-29-2011 02:30 PM

one that i built using a stock SD pump

I have talked to ford dealers and asked them about manual trans temp gages and thay told me that it was not nessary at all. The fluid that ford says to use is a costly but a quite effictve and as long as long as you use it you will be fine. Don't worry about the small stuff. I pulled a 38 ft fifth wheel in July thru texas and it did just fine and I have a 450 so I have some deep gears.
