O/D light. New trans?

Was told there's 30k on the tranny, it's a 95 powerstroke, has a jasper tranny in it, still shifts fine but the O/D light blinked 23 times, just sitting idling. And hasn't blinked since? Should I be concerned? Who has a scanner that can read tranny codes?

Generally if the O/D lights blinks that's the indicator for over-heating the tranny...I have a 2000 and I am not 100% positive what 95's is, but I bet dollars to donuts it's some sort of tranny heating issue. You're right to get a scanner and be sure.

It's got a huge cooler up front. I guess I'll have to look up how to install a temp guage. Thanks for the response.

No, The OD light blinking means a code has been stored. Need to find out what to code is.

How does the fluid look/smell?

tranny gauge isnt that hard to install and itll be a good idea to have. Any gauge you buy should come with instructions. OD light flashing is a tranny code, not exactly just a heat issue

Drove it home tonight. Got on it and went into limp mode blinking and all. Immediately still moving, popped it in neutral and shut it off and started and popped it back in to gear and it's been fine for about 40 miles. Going to a tranny shop in the morning having the codes read and possible a flush. Is a flush a bad idea?:humm:

Definitely have them read the codes. If the fluid is burnt or discolored then ya, I would flush it. Depending on what that code is... It could just be a solenoid issue, Could be anything. Once you have the code, see what they say.

I don't know enough about these tranny's but I would get that code, then make a call to someone like RacerX... Get their opinion on it.

It will be a waste of money to flush a transmission that's about to take a dump. See where I'm going with this?

Gotcha. I don't have a problem changing parts (solenoids). Not affraid to get my hands dirty. I love the truck I just can't see it go to waste. The truck looks like it had never been taken care of and I've been giving it the care it needs I just hope she's easy in my wallet.. But ya I hear ya I don't like wasting money that I don't have too. Thanks for the advice!:tu:

No prob, let us know what everybody says and what the code is...

Seventhree 05-11-2011 09:22 PM

Dropped truck off yesterday, at a tranny shop, (friend of the family) and they said the only code stored in the computer was ebc code? No trans codes and I put 120 miles on it since and no flashing nothing. Just a softer shift from 1st to 2nd ? :humm:
