I would imagine switching the motors would be easier. Theres a guy running around Stillwater that has a newer 7.3 in his OBS truck.

do u know if the motor mounts are the same? would i need the 01 tranny and t-case also?would i have to relocate the motor trans and t-case(forward/backwords)?any issues with the 01 harness and computer in the 97? also need to get around 500 horses:dixie:any suggestions? thanks u guys are awesome!!!

there is nothing diffrent from 94-03 other then some internal and computer changes. you will have to swap the wiring harness to get it to run right. but all the mounts and everything is the same. for 500 horse you will need injectors, turbo, headstuds, springs and push rods, clutch or tranny, custom chip, intake, exhaust.

Are the mounts the same? I would imagine the mounts for a 99-03 7.3 would not work with a 97 and down frame.... are you saying he can just reuse the mounts from his old engine and mount them on the new one? That would make sense, but I really dont have any personal experience in the area

As JoeBob said, the blocks are the same...

You will need to switch to Electric fuel on your truck because the SD motor doesn't have the lobe on the cam... You will also need to add an intercooler if you plan on sticking with the SD Spyder... The wiring harness and computer need to be swapped over.

Check to make sure that block has forged rods or it aint worth all the work.

2001... PMR's more then likely.

I have a 97 motor in my truck right now... Block, heads are more or less the same.

What's wrong with your motor that you are trying to replace it?

My 97 blew ahead gasket and the heads are messed up and the motor has a bunch oof mmiles so I was thinking it would be a lot cheaper to just put the sd motor in it
