runs rough and white smoke
Been having some issues with my 97 powerstroke lately.
On the cold days here in Wisconsin, if the truck is not plugged in it runs extremely rough on start up. Shakes really bad and definitely seems like its missing all over. It will blow enough white smoke to cloud the neighborhood. Id rev the engine up and keep it at about 1,100 RPMs to try to warm it up. In this process the engine dies again and again until it gets warm. The check engine light is usually off, but comes on sometimes. The light will go off once the truck is warm. It may take 15-20 minutes for the rough running and missing to stop, then the truck is driveable. If the RPMs are brought up to between 2,700 and 3,000 the engine will bog down, lose almost all power, and start blowing lots of white smoke. It seems to run fine if the RPMs dont reach that high. The same white smoke occurs if in neutral and rev'd up that high. What do you think my problem is? Thanks everyone |
sounds like it needs glow plugs and or a glow plug relay. what type of oil are you runinng?

Rotella. Also forgot to add that i scanned the truck and got an EOT code

have you ever changed the glow plugs and relay?
|
The relay was changed about a year ago and the glow plugs about two years ago
|
might have a the relay or a couple glow plugs bad causing all the white smoke. as for the dieing it could be a sensor.
|
i'm gonna say the same thing as him, if you don't wanna plug it in, better get yourself some synthetic in there, and do your glow plugs and relay, they're cheap and way better for your engine than what is currently going on with your engine
