lots of noise
I installed a new down pipe on my 1995 7.3 psd and I am getting a lot of noise now sounds like pipe is hitting somewhere but upon inspection it has clearance all around. cannot figure where noise is coming from. anyone have an idea? could it be the material the pipe in made from? maybe it is too thin metal?
I would think its either vibrating on the cab or uppipe or you are just hearing the exhaust more because you have an aftermarket downpipe. Does it have a vibrating sound to it? If so, its your downpipe touching the firewall or somewhere else.
checked all pipe is not touching anywhere up pipes firewall ect. sounds like exhaust leak but it has none it make vibration noise just under right side floor board like it is hitting the floor but it is not touching anything this is a stumper huh? I am thinking maybe pipe is too thin metal maybe but it is thick grade
I doubt its the thickness of the DP.
Does it make the noise all the time or just when coming to stops, taking off... etc? |
it is worse when taking off real bad when turning also maybe a clearance problem due to flexing
How much clearance do you have on the firewall?
i would almost bet that its hiting the firewall. just because it has clearence at a stop doenst mean it will have clearance when the engine is ratteling around.
Is it an auto? If so, make sure your trans. dipstick tube isn't rattling on your downpipe.
im with joebob, you have flex in the exhaust so it can move, it might be hitting the fire wall. taking off, turning, stoping, all the ones you listed where its the worse is when the exhaust will move

got it taken care of thanks for all the help. removed down pipe and used porta power spreader with wood block bent the floor up about 2 inches and this stopped all noise once again thx for the help:hellox::tu:

thax for the help found trans. dip stick tube was just barely touching the up pipe this was the noise maker just simple mistake made all that noise. hope this helps someone else.:tu: has anyone hear of a smoke switch for the 95 PSD I would like to make it roll a little coal every once in a while without killing the mpg. I have seen chevys and dodge do this but never old powerstroke.

NO smoke switch... Build for power, not for smoke. If you blow smoke and only have 170 hp, how cool are you?
Smoke is unburnt fuel...Or lack of air. Either give it more fuel or take away some air. You will have smoke. |
