my 97 7.3 question

could i put a blow out valve on my stock garrett turbo on my 97 ford f-250 7.3 liter or could i put a adjustalbe waste gate on it

ccarrier 02-01-2011 05:43 AM

dont bother with either. with the amount of money youd spend on that you could buy better mods

Before we start shooting down his question, let's find out why he wants to know about it.

Why do you want/need either device you listed?

cowboytroy 02-01-2011 12:06 PM

Well how could I get the best power out of my stock turbo. Could I add more boost and how and how could I get the turbo to spool faster and louder got a intake already bigger down pipe and straight pipe what else should I do

Or what are some mods for my turbo oh and how can I black smoke without my programer

well i thought maybe a blow out valve to keep my turbo from surging and i want a adjustable waste gate so i could increas boost

you want black smoke? put a bag over the air filter or take the turbo off then itll smoke, IF you want performance hold out for a smaller exhaust housing on the turbo $150 from beans or industrial injection, do the 10k resistor mod or hold out for a chip. smoke isnt power dude:s:

Smoke will never happen without a tuner of some sort unless you do as posted above and put a bag over your intake. Smoke doesn't mean power, It comes as a result of power but their are plenty of 250hp trucks blowin black smoke all around town. How cool are they when they can't put up? If your just lookin for smoke, please don't. When you go around town blowing smoke at every stop sign, all your doing is giving everybody a reason to look down on the Diesel truck community...

Now to answer your question. If you want to bring the boost faster, you can put a smaller housing on your turbo like a 1.0 housing. Your OBS truck's limiting factor is fuel. Your fuel injectors are small and therefore if you want power, you need to upgrade your injectors.

You already have intake and exhaust which is good. Next step is gauges to keep an eye on temps. Then stage 1 injectors and a chip are good for about 350 hp and don't require anything else to run them. That would be a good set up right there for a daily driver. If you have more cash and want more than that...You can get stage 2 or Hybrids and a chip...In this case you also need intercooler, Electric fuel, turbo, trans mods, HPOP, pushrods, springs studs...

Your buddy isn't very smart. If you would like to go get a Superduty turbo go for it, but your only taking a step back going that route and he forgot to tell you that you need the turbo, pedistal, uppipes, and drivers side manifold to make that work on your truck.

No your turbo doesn't have a silencer ring. That is a Dodge thing.

What are you trying to do with the truck that you feel your stock turbo isn't capable of? The stock turbo is plenty fine with your stock injectors. If you want to bring the boost faster, get a 1.0 housing. If you want more air, get a D66. If you want more smoke, you need more fuel and a chip.

if your lookin to have a louder turbo pull the outer silencing ring. that will make it very noticable when it spools...now 95'powersmoker says there aint one so maby im fulla it becuase i am a dodge guy....or maby its just the T-66 big turbo's that have them either way im sure he knows what hes talking about and im not trying to contradict him i just know i had a 97 and it had a t66 with the silencer rings pulled (the seller said it though so idk if i fully believe him) just tryin to help. good luck!

Not sure what a t66 is but it sure aint a stock turbo on a powerstroke. His stock turbo is going to be a Garrett GTP38
