Fuel pump issues
 

About three weeks ago my 96 was idling in the driveway and started sounding like it was starving for fuel and in a matter of about 30 seconds died. The level of fuel in the fuel bowl clearly stated it ran out of fuel. With 1/4 tank of fuel this shouldnt be possible, but I primed the bowl again and after several cranking sessions and not even a puff of white smoke I say the fuel pump is out. What do yall think. Another thing I took off one of the fuel lines from the regulator and its just barely trickeling fuel out at normal cranking speed. Any advice would be much appreciated.:argh:

I would be willing to agree with you on that. Not sure how else to trouble shoot with it being a mech. pump. If it were me, get a new pump...but that's me.

Those pumps are Kinda if a pita to change tho

i think about everything is a pita on these trucks. i love mine to death but its hard to work on..... ever taken the turbo off? if you have you know what im talkin about lol:w2:

never done a fuel pump though

theyre not to bad, just gotta be patient, everything is pretty straight forward tho


atleast they are not like goofy imports where you need a diff honda only tool for about everything thats a waste of time and cash

Its posible to have a crack in your fuel pickup tube

You have to pull the fuel canister out to change the pump anyway.
I'd pull the canister and put a vac pump on the fuel line and see if you can draw fuel from the tank that way.
If you get fuel then the pick-up is good and throw a new pump on there, and it's not that bad really.
Just remember to unbolt the pump and turn the crank by hand till you see the fuel pump lift up out of the bore. You don't want to try to pull it out with the cam lobe down or the tappet might fall into the motor. :scare2:

FOR SURE, I was just being lazy when I changed my pump and didnt take the fuel bowl out of the way and I just wiggled the old pump out of the engine, the tappet broke but luckily I was able to reach it, take the extra steps to do this and its pretty straight forward.:rocking:
