sponge brakes 1997 f 250

anyone no the name for the vacum pump running off the belt in front of the motor and what they cost,i think my brakes are lacking vacum.new master and pads and rotors

I am pretty sure its just called a vacuum pump, but before you buy one try bleeding the whole brake system again because master cylinders can be a little tricky some times as far as getting all the air out, and a spongy pedal means air in the system, and no vacuum causes a stiff pedal like when you apply the brake before starting. Just pull a vacuum test on it, but my bet is you still have air in the system somewhere

yes, the vacuum going out isnt going to make the pedal more easy to push. Since the brakes are vaccum assisted, loosing vacuum will just make the pedal extremely hard to push.
