Why doesn't my 97 have a wastegate on the turbo?

One day I had a case of the dumbass had my TS performance turned all the way up and raced a new 2011 f-250 which I smoked. But I watched my boost hit 40psi and from what I read thats not good. So I was checking into putting a bigger wastegate on it but from what I have read about it their isn't one. And with all the crap up their I haven't tore it apart yet. So I am at a loss. I was planning on throwing a 46mm Tial wastegate with a Banks intercooler on it. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

You have a 1.15 housing, so that helps with the drive pressures. The OBS trucks came with AA injectors (90cc) and without a intercooler... The superdutys came with (for the most part) AD injectors (140cc) and an intercooler... the intercooler slows spool, but the smaller exhaust housing (.84) makes up for that, but the smaller exhaust housing also allows for higher drive pressures, hence the wastegate.

Rather then waste money on adding a wastegate and keeping the stock turbo...

Add a H2e or a modded H2e and a set of headstuds... then forget about the 40psi thing.

Thanks

I changed the injectors to Swamp Diesel 1.5-175/146 single shot injectors and I have a Magnaflow exhaust which coming out is 3" and it goes to a 4", then with the TS performance 6 position programer. So I am dumping mass amount of fuel when I decide to play dummy and kick it in the butt. Forgive my ignorance but what is a h2e? I am new to diesel performance so it has been a learning process for me. Plus any thoughts with the banks intercooler. My worry is that I am going to spool up my turbo and blow it with the set up I have. And as much as I have invested now I really don't want to loose it. Greatly appreciate the advice and help.

I read your sig before I replied... The injectors you have are 175cc and stock nozzles... Good set up.

I would not waste your money on a Banks intercooler for your OBS, but I would find a superduty one and install it. You can get the intercooler for a few hundred or less, and with some very light fab skills install it in less then a afternoon.

Adding an intercooler into itself will lower your boost numbers some, as well as lower your EGT's.

An H2e is a turbo, many places sell kits to install them, or again, with some fab skills you can build your own kit.

Well it looks like paying attention in tig and mig welding should come in handy now. I greatly appreciate the help and advice. By the way that is some nice work on that motor and some very clean welds. And those pics will give me a better idea of what I am looking at so their is hope for me yet.

you would be surprised how much abuse the stock turbos will take, with the set up i had on my old powerstroke i could regularly peg my 35 pound boost guage, as long as you aren't sitting there for long periods of time it should be fine.

One last question

CSIPSD,,

When your talking about the Superduty Intercooler do you mean the 98 to 03 Intercoolers? I have been bouncing around on websites all day trying to find out who makes the Superduty and then it dawned on me that you may have been talking about the actual Ford intercooler.
I spoke to the guys at ATS and they said the regular intercooler is rated for up to 550hp and the 98 to 03 is rated to 700+ hp which I highly doubt I will hit that with what I am running, But I have no problem going to a bigger one to keep my options open in case I get power hungry. And I was on Ebay and found a few different intercoolers and I have to agree with you about the Banks, they are about 400.00 higher than everyone else from what I have checked into.

Take what ever you get from the boys at ATS and press the delete button... If its not a durramax then Clint is not interested...

Any intercooler is not "rated" for a HP limit... A boost limit maybe. I can take a stock plastic end tanked 6.0 IC and push it to over 55psi for three years without issue (whats on my truck now)...

Find yourself a used 6.0 or 7.3L intercooler and be done. $200-$300 bucks at the most.

You just saved me a hell of a lot of money. (which is going to make my wife very happy)Again this learning process I see needs to be researched and not see something shiny and assume it is what I need .Being new to the bomber community I just got caught up in the brand name scheme of things which I should know better than that. Much thanks again
