Stacks or Straight Pipe?

Howdy! I'm lookin into doin exhaust here shortly and was lookin for input on which to do. I dig Stacks but dont want to lose functionality with my bed. I am lookin at MBRP for The Black Stacks, And the 4" turbo back straight pipe. Any Opinions or Advice would be helpfully no matter which way you lean.
Thanks Folks!

I'm a stack fan and plan on doing stacks when I get a truck worth putting them on. My plan is to get a flatbed and route the stacks in front of the bed but with a regular bed I personally would use a piece of 4 or 5" square or 2x6 rectangle for the "y" pipe just because its thicker and will take more abuse. I guess it all comes down to how much you use the front 6"(assuming you do 6" stacks) of your bed. The big loss of space is when you have stacks and a toolbox.

Blue9573 08-09-2010 03:37 AM

it all depends on the truck. some look good with stacks and some dont.

BigOX 08-09-2010 09:53 AM

Its a 95' Supercab. everyone I've seen I liked...ALOT! But the problem is i will lose my bed cause i will have the stacks and the tool box. Gotta have the box for boat motor repair. i also run a camper shell during huntin' season. If i do stacks that means i gotta get an enclosed trailer or somethang for the huntin dogs. But I dig Stacks. Please help!:argh:

I've seen people trim their shell to fit around the stacks. I've also seen people modify their boxes to run stacks through them. There's a few pics on here of that. Another option is something that you probably wouldn't want to do as it looks a bit ridiculous with the factory bed is run the stacks outside of the bed like in the pic.

To be a lil bit ridiculous i like how that ford sits. You wouldnt know how it belongs to would you? Just wonderin what and how he did it?

Around these parts stacks are becoming more the norm than straight exhaust.. Get u a stack and hang behind the right rear tire.. i think u will love it... i do..

FordDZLMan9191 08-09-2010 06:40 PM

Nope, don't know who it belongs too. I just google searched ford stacks or powerstroke stacks or something along those lines and found the pic. I think it was on another forum but I don't remember which one. It is neat but I don't know if I'd do it. Just my .02. It looks like the pipes are run under the frame just behind the t-case. I'm sure it would be fairly easy to modify the y pipe you would get in your kit to fit in between the frame rails then mess with different bends to get it where you want. If you go that route, good luck and take LOTS of pics.

I just saw your pick of that dodge thats slick. It makes it look like a monster! whats somethang like that sound like?

1st_gen_puller 08-09-2010 06:45 PM

If u put a turn down on it it will intensify the sound cause its bouncing off the ground..the loger it is the less pop and crackle its more of a consistent smooth sound.. plus better whistle.. this is just my opinion of what i have encountered..

BigOX 08-09-2010 06:56 PM

right on. If i had a bender i think i would try the stacks that run out side the bed.

1st_gen_puller 08-09-2010 07:13 PM

The only truck i've like that i lioke is the big bad dodge check it out..

What about exhaust run aginst the Rocker pannels like on the old Shelby Cobra 427's

1st_gen_puller 08-09-2010 07:45 PM

Then you have problems with soot.. Its different i'm a huge fan of being different i am just a huge critic of ppl that cobble stuff together just to say they have it..
:dang:

BigOX 08-09-2010 07:53 PM

I saw an exhaust like that on a website during my quest for exhaust. i liked that as well but dont think it would look to good on my extended cab. If i had a single cab i would try it out. I was also wondering if anybody made a bolt up exhaust that didnt have a cat or muffler? Does MBRP do custom orders?

Just to get off topic for a minute. Hey Cowboy! Who you gonna use for custom tunes

Seriously looking at Eric at Inovative Diesel, but I am not finished with my homework or CA$H Collecting yet.:w2:
:hellox:Any Suggestions:tu:

By the way, I still think the rocker pannel thing would be really neat but my Vote is for the stacks, Mitered at 45's:rocking:

I am looking into upgrading to a DPP 6 position myself. But hit the home button on the top left and scroll down and look into some of the sponsors for the site. Most 6 positions run of the TS chip set up, but one, i cant remember who, uses digital.

pops has a 97 powerstroke, with the straight pipe, originally it came out just in front of the rear right tire sounded great but the only prob with that was the inside rim of that tire did some serious soot collecting over time, we cut her back extended it over the rear axle so it comes out behind the rear tire, a hair quieter now, but she still sings and whistles a sweet tune that folk can recognize before they see her
