7.3 Question, anybody know?

I have a 96 powerstroke that lost oil preasure at 220,000. Can the older non-turbo 7.3 be used as a short-block to rebuild mine? I have found some low mileage motors for less than the cost of a rebuild kit for mine.

No, the displacement is the same, but nothing else.

The motor should have shut down with no oil pressure. Could be as easy as a new LPOP or a new front cover...

Whats the issue with the old motor?

Luckily it did shut the injectors off before anything locked up. But I'm afraid it is in need of a complete rebuild since I could turn the motor fairly easily with a socket on the crank. Heard a lot of hissing that I assume is way to much blow-by.

How could the front cover be the cause?
