smoke through the air filter?
 

Dads truck starts up real rough. Will roal white smoke when first started. Waitin on him to buy a new GP relay for me to put in. tried to start today and after a couple cylinders fired and then died, white smoke came rolling through the air intake. any ideas fellas? only thing i can think is the turbo might need rebuilt.

Got any info on the truck? EBPV still in tact?

If it is, only thing I can figure is the exhaust valve is closed and the compressor wheel isn't spinning, which wouldn't let the turbo suck very hard... Perhaps there is some extra slober/oil mist spewing into the intake just before the turbo from the CC vent making some white puffs...

Still doesn't add up, cause if the motor is running, then there is still air being sucked into the intake that should clean up any blow-by vented into the intake. You ever pull the oil cap with the truck running and see a lot of blow-by?

when the white exhaust come out of the intake was right when the truck died. it was cranking then fired a couple cylinders, then died, the poof smoke. cranked it again and started right up with the classic white wmoke out the exahust. only thing i can figure is the seals in the turbo must be shot some how, allowing the exahust back throught the turbo because the turbo really didnt have time to start turnin. only mods done to the truck is a downpipe, and straight pipe exhaust. EPV vale is still there as you can here it when the truck is started.

Normal... Just a little bit of bleed back thru the intake... Nothing to do with the turbo.

I was thinking it wasn't abnormal for a truck not wanting to start. I wasn't sure enough to be the first to say so.

i aint worried about the truck not wanting to start.just the vast amount of exhaust comin back into the intake. that is NOT noraml.

If you meant Vast amounts of smoke, you should have said vast amounts of smoke. I agree, Vast amounts of smoke on a persistant basis is not normal. A one time deal as it died sounds more like a backfire, a condition of not running right i.e. not wanting to start. I am not worried about about it not starting either, but my point was, the smoke is the symptom, not the cause. My guess, and that is all it is, I would say the timing is off. Was anyone messing with a chip while the key was in igntion? This happened to me and the timing was knocked off. I had to replace the computer. I swapped computers with my other truck to verify the timing was off first. Was the vast amount of smoke rolling out the intake fuel or oil?

I should add messing with chip while key in ignition and/or batteries not disconnected.

A little wisp is normal when the truck fails to light off... Vast amounts is not. I could go out right now and make my truck back feed thru the intake...
