truck dying

sometimes when i let my truck sit for awhile and its cold, ill start it and let it warm up for a good 5 minutes or soo and ill be driving around and it will just shut off, i have a 1996 powerstroke 250. this happen to anyone else or does anyone know what the reason for that happening could be.

Most likely it's your cam position sensor.

yeehaw 01-28-2010 07:26 PM

yea i'd say the cam sensor, they are pretty cheap at NAPA and takes about 15 minutes if that to install

I agree with all the above about the cam position sensor but also chech the plug on the back of the computer mine was loose when i got my truck and it did the same thing "rare but possible."

My 97 had a recall on the cps. does yours?

powerstroke250 02-03-2010 04:42 PM

i dont know. i havent gotten or heard anything. ill look it up. but i would think it would be the same, 96 to 97 are basically the same right

twinboys 02-03-2010 11:04 PM

96 has different cps than the 97. Different part numbers. My 97 was recalled, my 96 was not (as far as I know).
