96 psd intercooler

how much would a intercooler help in performance?

twinboys 01-12-2010 08:56 AM

They don't really help performance. They allow you to dump more fuel in without melting down.

well i have a ts chip, and stage ones, intake and exhaust. i sometimes pull a camper. last time i pulled it i saw my egts at about 1000 kinda started to scare me...:argh:

Is your egt sensor pre or post turbo?

Will not help performance, will cool your EGT's and run denser air into the motor. There a great upgrade once you step up the injector size.

As was asked before, where is your pyro probe? if it is in the manifold or up pipe I would not worry, but from the sounds of it, its in your down pipe (post turbo).

I dropped about 85 degrees on my post turbo temps when I did mine. Not any real noticeable power increase. I did get better mileage and less smoke. I like the added insurance. The turbo spools a little slower now. When I'm empty and running around 60 mph on flat land I average around 500 degrees post turbo and 750ish pre turbo. I have two pyrometers. I melted down two engines and the pre turbo one is connected to my Snow Performance kit. The intercooler was worth the investment, in my opinion.

robammerman are you only monitoring your post turbo pyro? You NEED to be watching a PRE turbo pyro. After burning down 2 engines I'd think that should be apparent if you aren't.

Pre turbo ets are fine up to 1250ish all day long. No worries at all. You start running up over that and you can start running into problems.

As stated from an HP standpoint you're not going to see much if any hp gains from the IC. However when you are running bigger injectors and your EGTs get out of hand the IC will help control those EGTs and allow you to use that power.
