How Many RPM's
my 97 to me sounds like too high rpm's for 70mph, it runs about 2200-2300 rpm's, just wanting to check with everybody else and see about what theirs does.

you must have 4.10 gears in it
|
yea, i'll bet thats what it is.... you think i should swap out the gears for like a 3.55 or somethin around that range? what would that do for fuel economy tho.... i'm gettin around 17 right now:humm:
|
it will do a little better but not by a whole lot, i usually avg. 18 but i can do 21-22 on the highway with 265s
|
my pickup runs at 1600rpm at 75mph but 38''s and 3.73's make for nice rpm's while cruisin
|
I have 4.10's in my 97 crew cab. In the summer I run 36" tires and get 17 mpg at 65 mph. In the winter I run a 32" tire and get the same. Rpm doesn't seem to matter much, except that the egt's run much cooler at a higher rpm, also noticable in drive vs. over-drive (when towing).

3.73's will set you free from rpm terror.....albeit at a substantial cost. 2.65's must be somewhat of a dog for towing but I'm no expert on the subject either.

265s are the tire size. I have 4.10 and run a 285/75r16 tire and avg 19 @ 70 with 2200 rpm. too much rpm is about 3400. thats aprox 120ish mph with my set up. These here stroker's love high rpm and heat at lows. Remember to keep below 5psi boost about 2000rpm and she'll get good gas mileage. :tu:

Thanks for the advice!:tu:

I've got 4.10's, 225/75/16 tires and turn 2600 rpm at 70 mph.
