Speed Control Deactivation Switch Recall (09S09)
Print | Email this page | Subscribe

Ford is recalling all remaining vehicles – approximately 4.5 million U.S. vehicles – equipped with Texas Instruments speed control deactivation switches.

While the data show the majority of the vehicles being recalled do not pose a significant safety risk, we are recalling the vehicles to reassure customers and eliminate any future concerns.

This recall affects older models, including discontinued vehicles. The majority is greater than 10 model years old, with some up to 18 model years old.

"Ford cannot be confident that a speed control deactivation switch installed on your vehicle will not leak brake fluid, posing the risk of fire. This condition may occur either when the vehicle is parked or when it is being operated.
This risk exists on vehicles equipped with or without speed control"

Had mine done last week while I waited, all they do is install a jumper wire with 2 inline fuses.

MossBack 11-19-2009 11:27 PM

got it done today. Dropped it off when they were closed (5:30 am) picked it up when they were closed (6:30 pm). Damn i hate working all day. sun sets before im off:td:

Benjamin 11-19-2009 11:36 PM

they put a harness between that sensor and the vehicle harness, it has a fuse in it. the fuse will blow before the sensor will catch fire. i had the recall done on my Expedition w/no ill effects

How come this recall went out so late? 12 years later for my truck.
Or has it just been sent out slowly?

Manufacturers are under liable accountability for their product forever.

Sometimes, problems aren't realized until years later. If each piece was tested for infinite reliability, which is what the legal system has made each manufacturer responsible to attain, then products would never be released because they'd be in the testing phases for infinity.

So, products are released and when problems crop up years later, you get a safety recall retroactive back into the last century. :)

Believe me when I tell you that trucks in wrecking yards are actually required to have safety recalls performed as well....after all, someone might buy that bad part for $3 from Sideline Auto Wrecking.

Hope this helps,

Dan

my expedition is a 98 and i got the letter about 3 years ago.... looks like they are covering their butts and spending the extra few bux to make sure it won't happen to other vehicles with similar sensors then them waiting to pay settlements out of court for loss of peoples house, car and possibly life due to their negligence

PSD 11-20-2009 08:55 AM

Thanks Dan.
Makes more sense now

97 stroker 11-26-2009 12:36 PM

i got the recall and after they put in the wires my dang abs light come on and stayed onn for a few days then went off for 2. but now its back on. the dealership said only 2 or 3 had showed signs of leaking

PSD 11-28-2009 10:21 AM

I dropped off my truck, they said they would be done in 30-45 minutes, and gave me a call 15 minutes after I left the dealership saying it was done.

divedog 12-05-2009 04:38 PM

millco 12-17-2009 06:17 AM
