EBPV Acting Up
 

I always park my truck in the garage overnight, last night I didn't feel like pulling it in. I started it this mourning to let warm up and I didn't hear ebpv close like usual, so left after about 10 minutes and now when driving at any light throttle cruise speed the ebpv closes
until i give it a quick snap on the throttle then goes back to wanting to close. any suggestions. Didn't do it until I parked outside not that cold hear,35 degrees.

my 94 and 95 do it when its cold out, always stops after the motor warms up.

and 35 is real cold. lol

yeah it will also stop if you let the truck run for a good idk 10-15 min then when u go outside to leve just shut it off for literally 1 second then start it back up then it will be fine, thats what i do with mine

Fix it
 

If you will unplug it or disconect it from the fap and hard wire the flap open you will not have to worry about it ever again!!
If it is giving you trouble now it is only going to get worst!
Mine even after diving for hours in the cold would just close and of course you lose power cause of the flap closing and no exhaust relief!:jump:

The 95 just started to stay closed the other day if you dont plug the truck in. lol Which wires need to be tapped to leave it full open?

I have two powerstrokes, a 96 and a 97. I also live in Minnesota (-10 F last night). What you are describing is the normal warm-up valve operation. It is a pain in the a$$ until it warms -up, but it also reminds me not to hot-rod until it does.

If it is closing after hours of operation, I would think the ecm is getting faulty information from a sensor. maybe engine oil temp or intake air temp or something like that. If that is the case it would be worth fixing because they also affect tuning.

Just idling for extended periods in cold weather may not be enough to raise the eot enough to keep it open.
Keep in mind that the ebpv's sole purpose is to restrict the exhaust when cold. This results in more fuel being added to maintain an idle (or other rpm if driving) and thus warming up faster.

do you have an intake on your truck? the EBPV reads off the sensor in the filter housing with an intake i guess it throws that sensor off, mine usually will do the samething til the truck warms up but only when its below 40 and it has been parked outside unplugged for like 6 hrs+

I will get the operating specs for these. Sounds like you have a problem with yours. It should only come on when the engine is cold to help it warm up. When driving it should open so as to not restrict performance. A good indication of a problem would be if it has started to work differently than before. (I'll post back when I find out how it is supposed to work!)
