7.3 Jerky throttle

Hey everyone.

So... Its not hard to notice a large jerk even when I very slowy engage the throttle in my truck. The intensity of the jerk varries in different gears. It almost seems bad. Sometimes I notice faint "knocks" also. All U-joints have been replaced. Any input ?
Thanks guys. :c:

ever figure anything out...i have the same trouble, it seems to get worse in the higher chip settings

PSD 12-20-2009 04:38 PM

Nope. Never really looked into it any further. Mine sort of seems throttle related but I cant be totally sure.

well the e4od trans is the plroblem child for ford sounds like your not geting enough line pressure the when u hit the gas or switch gears it has to fight to get into gear a shift kit or after market trans controle module eould help to raise line pressure and depending on how wore the trans is could solve ur jurk and also might need a new torque convertor i would do a stall test on it and it should read around 1800 rpm be for the turbo kicks in to raise it

only other thing is if the transfer case has some play in it

Sandia505 12-22-2009 03:43 PM

It is most likely your throttle position sensor. TPS If it is flaky it will cause the trans to jump gears. :scare2: Bucking like a wild bronco.:jump:

PSD 12-23-2009 12:36 AM

Thanks for the replies guys. Bucking like a wild bronco hits the nail on the head with a hammer. Great example. Any info on the TPS?

MG05 12-27-2009 07:14 PM

do you also notice a jerk when your moving and let off the pedal, say 30 mph or so?

PSD 12-29-2009 12:30 AM

Yes I do. And then giving it throttle again is another jerk

powerstroker52 01-05-2010 07:40 PM

mgo5, yours is tranny related if you notice it more in higher tunes, i noticed in my auto the shifting of the truck absolutly blows in high HP settings and thats due to the e40d tranny being a giant POS stock.............but if you get it built up its the best thing since toliet paper

MG05 01-10-2010 10:30 PM

well i was worried about that, and wasn't quite happy with my first diesel after i got it, so i actually went and traded it off the other day....i got a dodge with a 5 speed and a v10

PSD 01-11-2010 07:10 PM

no info on the TPS ?

robammerman 01-16-2010 09:19 PM

I know some chips can make the TPS super touchy. But this sounds a little more involved than that.

PSD 01-17-2010 04:04 PM

Its been like that before the chip. I also notice a knock when I let off the trottle and sometimes other knocks while moving with no throttle

Check your engine mounts I have a manual and it does the same thing I have yet to replace mine but I've read up on it and that's what it is supposedly
