So I have a buddy...

I have a friend with a 97 stroker, and I went out yesterday and checked some stuf out for him. I hooked up to his hpop and didn't even make the gauge budge. took the gauge off and it didn't spit at all. I think this is probably something down below like a bad sump pump. Possibly a bad hpop, and I have heard that quite often when this happens, that the IDM goes on the fritz.

Are you cranking when you are doing this? What is his issue?

I assume you checked the oil?

Is it running?

No, she will not fire at all. She will hit on ether, but will not fire. also checked fuel pressure under cranking and she turned up to 40 psi, so that should be good,

Oil is topped off, and doesn't look too old.

He only paid 1700 for it, and was not running at that time. At the time that it died, it sputtered a bit, and ran a bit rough, and then she just died, at least that is what he told me. having no oil coming from the oil rail, concerns me the most.

Get a scaner on it and check the ICP when cranking. Put a manual gauge on the port at the top of the HPOP res and check the low pressure oil pressure. I would bet you have a bad LPOP.

DO NOT spray ether on any rig with Glow plugs, your asking for blown heads and such. If you have to, remove the Glow plug relay wires to make damn sure they are not firing!

On the top of the timing cover by the oil pressure sensor there is a small plug with a quarter inch drive hole in it. Remove that plug and crank it over. If you get oil out of there it's in your hpop system. If no oil, it's in your oil pump/sump system. I've found the oil pump sucking air from aroung the seal, the sump sucking air from where it attaches to the timing cover and the braze on the sump eroding away and the sump needing to be repaired. All of those had over 300,000 miles on them. But, if you get oil up top and no pressure on the oil rails you've more than likley got a hpop, icp sensor or valve issue or an electrical problem going to the icp valve. Good luck.
