Hard hot start 7.3 powerstroke, injector O-rings?
Hey, I have a question for ya. How do I know it's time to replace the injector O rings in a 7.3?
Here are my symptoms: -quick cold start(3 day old starter) -lagging hot start (2seconds)when I first got the starter, it was the same as cold -running 15-40 Delo, ran 5-40 syn and lost even more oil. -losing 1 to 1.5 quarts per 1000 mi. Been leaking since the day I got it at 156,000. -loses more oil when hot or towing a load. -blueish gray smoke when I get on the throttle at any engine heat. Been doing this for quite a while, unsure how long it's been doing that, found it after I relocated exhaust about 6 months ago. -no oil in the fuel bowl today; 1000 miles since last change. -when I changed the filter about 1,000 mi ago, the filter was pretty black after 15,000 mi. What I have done already: -new starter on Tuesday, makes me wonder if it is just a heat soaked starter. -Unplugged IPC (no change) -pulled off down pipe to check turbo(no engine oil wetness) -valve stem seals 1000 mi ago -no coolant loss -quite a bit of oil mist coming from the crankcase, but blowby measured .5 inches of water @3000 rpm at last check. I think it might be the O-rings at 190,000 miles, but unsure. Thought it might be the LPOP or the HPOP, but I don't think the blue smoke would appear then, it would just be hard start or no start. Could be a heat soaked starter, but it seems to start harder even in 75 degree weather this morning at 7:45am. I would like to know your thoughts 🙂 |
Also
probably going to rebuild the IPR this weekend for giggles. Would have done it earlier this year, I just hate taking the blasted fuel bowl off. There may also be a loss of MPG, unsure yet, will know later this week.
