So I just rebuilt all of my injectors an reinstalled...assumed there would be air in the system so have run it hard for about 60 miles. It has smoothed out a bit since the initial start but is still running a little rough. I throws a check engine light now afre driving it for about 15 minutes. Once you turn off the key and restart, the check engine light is gone and doesn't come back for again about 15 minutes and both time under hard driving. I can't get my friend to check the codes on it yet, but would like to know if anyone has any suggestions. Before I changed out the injectors, I had no lights or running issues other than a lot of white smoke....one of the injectors I rebuilt had a broken nozzle spring and two others had less than the .002 clearance between the armature plate...I put them back in that way while I wait for new poppet screws and shims...the oil is less than 100 miles Rotella 15-40 but it did get a bit of carb cleaner in it while I was cleaning out the cups..

You rebuilt them yourself?

Buckage1234 12-20-2013 03:20 PM

Yes...not all that difficult. Just have to be super clean and careful. Ultrasonic cleaner forthe internals and a good source for teh various parts. The ability to take them apart...i used some special tools and a vise. Did not have them flow checked on a flow bench though...I did replace the nozzle springs and all of the internal and external O rings and re-torqued to 75 ft lbs and put them back in the truck at 120 inch lbs. I hate to have to change the Rotella again, but I guess that is next....it did get a little fuel and carb cleaner in it. Still, it had only about 100 miles on it and new rev-x to boot....can air in the system cause it to throw a code? Seems wierd that once you shut the key off and back on it is gone... if I disconnect the ICP and don't get a CEL, could that be doing it?

joebob3093 12-20-2013 03:54 PM

You just all new internals in them? Stock rebuild?

Buckage1234 12-20-2013 05:16 PM

yes... the only thing I could not change was the armature plate orings and add new shims for teh poppets....could not get the screws out withought drilling them out. Finding the armature screw 4.5MM tool is hard to find....no one seems to have one, not even Ford....the nientendo bit just rounds them out...could have gone with bigger intensifier pistons but decided to just do stock this time...

Get them flowed, the CEL sounds like icp code. Which could come from the injectors holding pressure like they should

Buckage1234 12-20-2013 05:28 PM

would air still in the system cause that? I am thinking I still may need to drive it like I stole it a little while longer before yanking out the injectors again...

joebob3093 12-20-2013 06:14 PM

After all my injector swaps I dont think I have set CEL, only runs rough

Buckage1234 12-20-2013 06:21 PM

well, I am pulling the valve covers back off tomorrow perhaps I broke something on one of those....they did look a little rough...I cleaned them up a bit as one of the connectors was chaffed...I just hope my diesel mechanic friend comes over tomorrow with his scanner...that should point me in the right direction. I will keep you posted...thanks for hte responses JoeBob...
