New to powerstrokes

Im a Cummins Light Duty technician, but have not owned my own diesel yet. I found a good deal on a stock 97 f250 7.3 2wd with a 5speed (ext cab long bed) im going to be using the truck for daily driving and pulling the racecar trailer/ boat on the weekends. no more then 8k lbs. what do i need to do to this all stuck truck for best economy and ease of towing?

Figured dp, exhaust, intake.. at this time not wanting to do injectors yet.

For what you are going to do...that will be plenty. Dont worry about injectors unless you are going high hp and boost. Then change head studs and gaskets first. 7.3 is good engine and should run a long time.....i have 363000 on mine and all ive done to it is hpop intake and exhaust.

What about a chip? Whos good for an economy/tow tune.. and this one has 300k but seems to have been takin care of 2 owner stock truck so dont wanna put much power to a 300k mile engine

TS is as good as any. Just remember. No hot tunes when pulling. Creates very high egt and will burn it up

Yea and no ic on this truck are they bad about egts pulling trailers?

Not really, get yourself turbo back exhaust, intake, gauges and a custom tuned chip and be done with it. That setup will run forever and be very reliable. No need for studs or gaskets with that.

Should only need studs and gaskets for high horse and high boost. Custom tunes are pricey....but worth the cost if you want to run the truck for a long time

Only need studs for 40+ psi, most guys will never see that. Custom tunes for a 7.3 are not that much. You can get a brand new chip with custom tunes for about 400.

Sounds good! Thanks
